Chapter 8 - Girls talk

The streets were quiet now, the city lights reflecting off the polished hood of the Lexus RX 500h F SPORT as Nuha eased into the driver's seat. Nawal sat beside her, still buzzing from the show.

"That was amazing!" Nawal exclaimed, leaning back in her seat. "Seriously, Nuha, we have to do this more often. I feel like a teenager again."

Nuha smiled, glancing at her friend. "Yeah… it's nice to just… breathe for once. No work, no deadlines, nothing."

"Exactly! And driving your new toy? Perfection!" Nawal added, turning slightly to admire the sleek lines of the Lexus. "Honestly, I'm jealous. I almost feel like I should be driving it."

"You'll get your turn," Nuha said with a teasing grin. "But I'm calling shotgun first."

Nawal laughed, elbowing her playfully. "Calling shotgun in your own car? That's rich, Miss Nuha. Who even does that?"

Nuha shook her head, chuckling. "I do, apparently. And it's my Lexus, so rules apply."

Nawal leaned forward slightly, pretending to scrutinize the dashboard. "You know… this car actually suits you. Elegant, understated, but powerful. Kind of like its owner."

Nuha felt her cheeks warm but tried to brush it off. "Thanks. I think," she murmured, her fingers tightening slightly on the wheel.

The radio softly played a jazzy tune as they drove down the main avenue. Nawal hummed along, occasionally glancing at Nuha.

"You know," Nawal began, a sly tone in her voice, "I think Shan… that guy we saw at the theater… was totally checking you out."

Nuha choked slightly on her laughter. "Nawal! Stop! You're imagining things."

"I'm not imagining, I'm observing," Nawal said firmly, smirking. "Your heart was literally racing. Admit it."

Nuha shook her head, still laughing. "No, I was… just… surprised! He appeared out of nowhere."

Nawal raised an eyebrow knowingly. "Uh-huh, and you didn't enjoy it at all. Totally believable."

Nuha groaned, burying her face in her hands for a moment. "Okay, maybe a tiny bit," she admitted reluctantly, peeking at Nawal from between her fingers.

"See!" Nawal laughed triumphantly. "I knew it. Now imagine Rayyan, your boss, seeing that side of you. What a scandal!"

Nuha's eyes widened. "Nawal! I can't even think about that right now!" She shook her head, laughing, but a small blush lingered.

For a few minutes, the two friends drove in comfortable silence, the soft glow of the streetlights reflecting off the car's polished surfaces. Nuha stole glances at Nawal, appreciating the friend who always seemed to know just how to balance fun and reality.

"You know," Nuha said after a pause, "I feel… really free tonight. Like all the stress from work doesn't exist."

Nawal smiled warmly. "That's the point, Nuha. Tonight is about you, about us, about enjoying life. No Rayyan, no Shan, no deadlines… just… us and your fabulous car."

Nuha laughed softly. "Yeah… and I feel like I can actually breathe for the first time in weeks."

Nawal reached over playfully, tapping Nuha's shoulder. "Good. And just so you know… this car? Totally adds to your aura. People will notice you now."

Nuha rolled her eyes, hiding a laugh. "Please, Nawal, don't make me feel any more self-conscious."

"Oh, I'm just pointing out facts, my dear," Nawal said with a grin. "You're glowing tonight. And it's not just the car."

Nuha's heart skipped a beat. She glanced briefly at her friend, who winked knowingly, then turned back to the road, trying to focus on driving but secretly feeling a little thrill.

In a few minutes, they pulled up outside Nawal's apartment. The Lexus came to a smooth stop, the engine purring quietly.

"Wow," Nawal said, climbing out of the car. "I don't know if I'm more impressed with your driving or your taste in cars."

Nuha stepped out as well, stretching slightly. "Both, obviously," she said with a small laugh.

Nawal leaned against the hood, smirking. "You know, Nuha… you should drive like this more often. Confident, relaxed… it suits you."

Nuha felt her cheeks warm but tried to play it cool. "Maybe I will… maybe."

They laughed together, the comfortable, playful energy between them lingering. Nawal nudged her gently. "Well, come on. Let's head inside and continue the night. Dessert, drinks, gossip… and maybe I'll make you admit just how much Shan caught your attention."

Nuha groaned, rolling her eyes but smiling. "You're impossible, Nawal."

"And you love it," Nawal said with a wink.

Nuha shook her head, laughing as they walked inside. Her heart was still fluttering, not just from the car, the adventure, or Shan's stare, but from the thrill of freedom, friendship, and playful flirtation that had made tonight so memorable.

The apartment was cozy, warm light spilling from the lamps, casting a soft glow over the room. Nawal led Nuha to the couch, flopping down dramatically after praying Isha

"Finally! We can relax properly," Nawal said, grabbing a tray of desserts she had prepped earlier. "Chocolate mousse, mini tarts, and my infamous tiramisu."

Nuha laughed softly, taking a seat beside her. "You really prepared all this? You're impossible."

"I know. And you love it," Nawal said with a smirk, offering her a tart.

Nuha took it, biting carefully. "Mmm… you're not kidding. This is amazing."

"I live to serve," Nawal said dramatically, pointing a finger at her. "Now spill. Tell me everything that happened today. Every little detail. Don't leave anything out."

Nuha giggled, leaning back. "Well… I got my day off, first of all. My boss.."

"Rayyan, right?!" Nawal interrupted, eyes sparkling with mischief. "Tell me you told him off or at least teased him!"

Nuha laughed, shaking her head. "No! I… I just thanked him. But the funny part, he gave me a car."

Nawal's jaw literally dropped. "A car? Like… real car car?"

Nuha nodded, biting back a grin. "Yes. The Lexus RX 500h F SPORT. Completely unexpected. I wanted to surprise you, which is why I didn't tell you."

Nawal squealed, nearly spilling her tiramisu. "Nuha! That's… that's insane! You're being spoiled rotten! I can't even...wait, wait… did you drive it here?"

"Of course," Nuha said, shrugging casually. "I mean… I had a day off, so why not enjoy it?"

Nawal shook her head, eyes wide. "Girl… you are glowing tonight. I can't even. So tell me everything..was he… flirty? Did he act weird?"

Nuha hesitated, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Not really… I mean, professional, mostly. But… he adjusted my scarf for me. It was… close." She stopped, realizing how quickly her cheeks had warmed.

Nawal smirked knowingly. "Close? Ohhh… Miss Nuha, he was flirting. I'm calling it. Admit it, you liked it."

"I… I didn't say that!" Nuha protested, though the flutter in her chest betrayed her words.

"You totally did. And your little heart is racing just thinking about it," Nawal teased, nudging her shoulder. "Honestly, you can't hide from me. I've seen you blush before, but tonight? I'm calling it, you're hooked."

Nuha groaned, hiding her face in her hands. "Nawal! Stop teasing me!"

Nawal laughed, waving her hands dramatically. "Oh no, this is far too entertaining. But seriously, Nuha… if he wants you to be confident, you've got to let him see it. And I'm here to help."

Nuha leaned back, staring at the ceiling for a moment. "It's just… Rayyan is… complicated. He's professional, always so in control. I don't even know if he notices me like that."

Nawal raised an eyebrow. "Professional? That's your way of saying he's hiding feelings, right? Because the scarf thing? Yeah, that was more than professional."

Nuha blushed again, spinning a spoon in her tart. "Maybe… maybe it was just… careful, you know? I can't read him at all. And then today at the office, the way he complimented my work… and the car… it's overwhelming."

Nawal leaned closer, whispering conspiratorially. "Nuha, listen to me. Life's too short to overthink everything. If he's giving you all these signals, even subtly, it's your cue to… pay attention. Let him see your confidence too."

Nuha nodded slowly, feeling a mix of nervous excitement and warmth. "You make it sound so easy."

"Easy?" Nawal snorted. "Nuha, nothing about love is easy. But that's why it's fun. And tonight… tonight is about you, confidence and fun first. We'll figure out the rest later."

Just as Nuha was relaxing, her mind wandering to Shan, Nawal nudged her. "Okay, tell me, what about that guy at the theater? Shan? You were noticing him, I saw it. Don't lie."

Nuha groaned, rolling her eyes. "I… I saw him. That's all. He's… handsome. That's it."

Nawal laughed so hard she almost spilled her drink. "That's it? Miss Nuha, your face betrayed you. Come on, be honest."

"I'm being honest!" Nuha protested, laughing despite herself. "I barely even spoke to him!"

"Uh-huh," Nawal said, smirking. "And yet, you were dying to see where he went. Admit it, you noticed him because he's… well… distracting."

Nuha buried her face in her hands again, laughing. "Nawal! Stop! You're impossible!"

"And you love it," Nawal said, winking.

Nuha shook her head, still laughing. "Maybe… maybe a little."

The two friends spent the rest of the evening in playful banter, enjoying desserts, sipping mocktails, and laughing at old college memories. Nawal teased Nuha relentlessly about Shan and Rayyan, while Nuha tried, unsuccessfully, to maintain her composure.

"Tonight is perfect," Nuha said softly, leaning back against the couch. "No work, no stress… just laughter, friends, and this amazing car waiting outside."

Nawal grinned. "Exactly. And tomorrow, we deal with the world again. But tonight? We relax, enjoy, and maybe plot a little mischief too."

Nuha laughed, the sound mingling with Nawal's. Her heart was light, her mind buzzing with thoughts of Rayyan and the mysterious Shan, and she realized that tonight was not just about a Lexus, or a show, it was about freedom, fun, and the thrill of possibility.
