Chapter 20 - Ch 20

I woke up before the alarm.

Not by accident this time.

My eyes opened slowly, calmly, as if my body already knew the exact moment it needed to wake. The ceiling came into view, familiar and unchanged, the fan spinning in the same lazy rhythm it always had.

For a few seconds, I just lay there, staring.

No panic.

No gasping.

No confusion.

Just… awareness.

My hand moved slightly, and I felt the edge of the book resting beside me on the bed. I didn't need to pick it up to know what page it was on. I didn't need to check the time to know what it would say.

6:12 AM.

Always.

A slow breath left my chest as I sat up, running a hand through my hair. My heartbeat was steady. Too steady for someone who had died more times than he could count.

This was it.

Not another attempt.

Not another variation.

This time… I would end it.

The thought didn't come with fear.

It came with certainty.

From somewhere deep inside, a quiet voice stirred.

"Confident," it murmured, as if asking or maybe, saying out my feelings aloud.

I didn't answer and just iignored it and then got out of bed.

Everything that followed felt… rehearsed. Not like routine, but like memory playing itself out through my body. I took a shower, the water running over my skin as my mind stayed quiet for once. No flashbacks. No hesitation.

Just clarity.

I made breakfast — eggs and bread. Simple. Efficient. Something I could do without thinking. I ate slowly, mechanically, like fueling a machine rather than enjoying a meal.

In some of the previous loops, I even tried to eat non veg thinking I might gain a mutation but my human genes were so powerful already that whenever they awakened, they overpowered those mutated genes.

So, after a few loops of trail and error, I went back to my usual.

I then washed the dishes.

Ironed the clothes I had been ignoring for loops.

By the time I was done dressing, the alarm finally rang.

I turned it off before it could finish its second beep.

"When was the last time I heard you ringing?" I muttered, a faint smile touching my lips. For many loops, i left even before having a chance to hear it but now...

It almost felt ironic.

After everything… this was what normal looked like.

I decided to walk to the office.

The morning air was cool, brushing lightly against my face as I stepped outside. People moved around me in their usual patterns — rushing, chatting, existing without knowing what was coming.

I noticed things more clearly now.

Not because they were different.

But because I was.

At the corner store, an old man tripped.

Oranges rolled across the ground.

Someone else helped him before I could.

At the bus stop, a pickpocket slipped away unnoticed.

At the crossing, a biker ignored the signal and sped past, knocking over a schoolgirl who cursed under her breath as she stood up.

Normal.

All of it.

Completely normal.

A world that didn't know it was about to end.

"Pathetic," the voice whispered faintly. "All of them."

I didn't respond.

I kept walking.

When I reached the office building, I stopped for a second and looked up at it. The same glass structure. The same entrance. The same place where everything began… and ended… over and over again.

This time would be different.

Not because I hoped it would be.

But because I would make it different.

"God," I said quietly, almost out of habit, "let this not be another boring day."

Then I walked in.

Everything unfolded exactly as it always did.

Mike.

His grin.

"Look who is on time today, is the world coming to an end or something?"

"Stop it, Mike," I replied, my tone calm, almost detached.

We went to the cafeteria.

Coffee.

The same bench.

The same angle of sunlight through the glass.

Sarah walked in.

Same ponytail.

Same blue folder.

Same smile.

"Good morning, guys."

"Hey, morning," I said.

I didn't look at her for too long.

Didn't let anything linger.

This wasn't about that anymore.

Mike started talking about the news. Snow in impossible places. Animals acting strange. A quiet city that felt wrong in ways people couldn't explain.

I listened.

Not because I needed to.

But because it confirmed something.

Everything was aligned.

Everything was leading to the same moment.

The beginning.

"Yeah," the voice in my head murmured. "The beginning of the end."

The same conversation followed as I lifted the coffee cup and took a sip.

Right on time.

The first shift came suddenly.

A tightness in my chest.

A choke in my throat.

I didn't react.

Didn't panic.

Didn't fight it.

The cup slipped from my hand as my body collapsed from the chair.

"Adrian?!" Sarah's voice rang out.

Mike moved—

Then stopped.

Pain took him too.

It spread like fire through my veins, just like every other time. Muscles locking. Blood burning. Heart slamming violently against my ribs.

But this time… I didn't resist it.

I let it happen.

Around me, chaos erupted.

Chairs falling.

People screaming.

Bodies hitting the floor.

The same scene.

The same beginning.

My vision blurred, but this time… I forced myself to focus.

The blue screens appeared.

Clear.

Sharp.

Unavoidable.

[Beginning evolution in World #676967.]

[Bringing out the full potential present in the body.]

[No mutation possible.]

[Evolving the being as High Human.]

There it is.

The truth.

The start of everything.

Pain surged harder, forcing a broken breath out of my chest as my body curled slightly.

Sarah was beside me.

Mike too.

All of us trapped in the same moment.

The same transformation.

The same fate.

"This is it," the voice whispered softly. "Your final loop."

My lips twitched faintly.

Maybe it was.

Or maybe…

This was just the beginning of something worse.

My vision darkened slowly.

The pain peaked—

And then everything went black.

"Let's begin..."
