Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Thunder Strikes the Panther

The battlefield was littered with the remnants of Wakandan resistance. Smoke spiraled into the sky, punctuated by the rhythmic thrum of quinjets and the low hum of containment pylons. Streets that had once gleamed with polished vibranium now bore the scars of relentless bombardment, scorched and twisted under the weight of the Foundation's superior technology.

And amidst the chaos, one confrontation drew the attention of everyone on both sides—a duel that would decide the fate of Wakanda's most formidable defender.

The Black Panther stepped forward, the full extent of his agility, strength, and vibranium-enhanced skill radiating from him in every taut muscle. His claws glinted in the dim light, each step precise, each motion honed from centuries of lineage and preparation. The Wakandan king moved like a shadow, every motion designed to kill efficiently, to outsmart opponents far larger or stronger than himself.

Opposite him stood Commander Cody, leader of the Red Right Hand, a figure that seemed almost mythic in its construction. Cody's armor shimmered faintly with protective wards, an anomalous talisman embedded at its core. Every inch of him exuded power—superhuman endurance, reflexes, and strength, enhanced beyond human limits. Sparks of lightning danced along the edges of his armor, coiling and snapping with quiet menace.

"You've been upgraded," the Black Panther said, voice calm but tinged with warning. "But Wakanda will not fall."

Cody's response was a subtle smirk, barely visible behind the faceless mask of his helm. "I hope you're ready."

Then the duel began.

Black Panther struck first, his claws aiming for the gaps in Cody's armor, lightning flickering along Cody's arms as he met each blow with unyielding force. Cody countered effortlessly, lightning lancing along his fists and surging through the talisman's barrier, creating a protective aura that repelled vibranium strikes. Each punch landed with the force of a battering ram, shaking the asphalt beneath them.

The Black Panther darted, flipping and weaving, his movements a blur of precision. Vibranium claws tore at Cody's armor, leaving scorch marks and sparks, but each strike was absorbed, deflected, or dissipated by the lightning barrier. Cody's talisman hummed, absorbing energy and redirecting it, giving him an almost impervious edge against Wakanda's mightiest warrior.

Cody's first offensive strike came moments later, his fists crackling with electricity. Lightning surged over his armor in jagged arcs, and he lashed out with a blow so powerful it could have shattered bone and steel alike. Black Panther dodged, but the sheer velocity of Cody's attacks forced the king back step by step.

Then Cody activated his rifle. The laser rifle, modified to channel his electrical power, glowed ominously as arcs of raw lightning coalesced at its muzzle. Black Panther leapt to strike again, only for Cody to fire—a beam of pure, white-hot lightning searing through the street. The shockwave threw the Black Panther off balance, sending him tumbling into a crumbling wall.

"You can't keep up," Cody said, advancing. Each step seemed to crack the air, every movement amplified by the storm of electricity surrounding him. He raised a fist, lightning arcing across the knuckles, and struck again. Black Panther blocked, but the impact threw him backward, the sound echoing like a thunderclap.

For a moment, the king tried to use vibranium's resilience to his advantage, striking rapidly, aiming for weak points, and using every acrobatic trick at his disposal. But Cody's enhancements were too much—the lightning armor absorbed the kinetic energy, his superhuman reflexes countered every feint, and the talisman made him nearly untouchable.

Finally, with a controlled roar of raw power, Cody unleashed the full extent of his lightning manipulation. His entire body became a conduit of energy, fists igniting with a storm of electricity. The Black Panther lunged, attempting a final strike at Cody's chest, but Cody met him with a single punch, charged with concentrated lightning.

The strike hit.

A blinding explosion of light erupted, shaking the nearby streets and knocking even the most hardened soldiers off their feet. When the smoke cleared, the Black Panther lay motionless, defeated. Cody stood over him, armor still flickering with residual energy, talisman glowing faintly as if satisfied with the outcome.

The battlefield fell into a stunned silence. Wakandan forces, no matter how valiant, had just witnessed their greatest champion fall in single combat.

"You fought well," Cody said quietly, almost reverently, before turning back to the broader war around him. "But lightning always finds its mark."

And with that, the tide of the battle was set. Wakanda had been tested—and for the first time, the Foundation's superior knowledge, technology, and enhanced personnel had proven absolutely unassailable.

The war for vibranium, and the future of the hidden nation, had only just begun.
