Rah moaned softly as her body twitched beneath the blankets. Consciousness returned gradually, pulling her from a deep and restless sleep. Her eyes slowly opened, but for several moments all she saw was darkness. The room remained dimly lit, illuminated only by pale moonlight filtering through the massive glass walls. A cool breeze drifted through the slightly opened balcony doors, brushing gently against her skin and carrying with it the scent of pine and distant snow.
The world felt strangely quiet. For a moment she simply lay there, staring at the ceiling while allowing herself to enjoy the unfamiliar peace.
Eventually she turned her head and her gaze landed on Damian.
He stood beside the enormous glass wall with his back partially turned toward her. Beyond him stretched acres of forest covering much of the property surrounding the mansion. Moonlight bathed the treetops in silver while distant hills faded into darkness beyond the horizon.
