Chapter 190 - Chapter 190: Very Joyful and Hilarious

On the TV, the Male Lead looked utterly bewildered upon hearing the name "Afterlife Battlefront."

Nakamura Yuri, however, remained composed and asked, "May I ask if you'd like to join us?"

"Huh? Join you?" The Male Lead was utterly confused.

"Your presence here means you're already dead," Nakamura Yuri explained.

"What? Uh... I don't really understand." The Male Lead was still completely lost.

Instead of elaborating, Nakamura Yuri warned, "This is the afterlife. If you just sit around, you'll be erased."

"Erased? By whom?" The Male Lead asked, puzzled.

"Probably God," Nakamura Yuri replied, sounding unsure herself.

"So, what exactly am I joining?" the Male Lead pressed.

"The Afterlife Battlefront... well, the unit name changes quite often."

Nakamura Yuri explained, "It started as the Afterlife Battlefront, but that would be like admitting we're dead, right? So we scrapped it. Since then, it's kept changing. Now it's the Afterlife Battlefront, but before that it was the Alive But Numb Battlefront. It was such a stale meme, we changed it the very next day."

The Male Lead blinked, looking utterly bewildered.

Without dwelling on it, he changed the subject. "By the way, is that a real gun?"

Nakamura Yuri sighed. "Everyone reacts like that when they first get here. You need to adapt and accept what's happening."

"How am I supposed to accept it?"

"By fighting."

"Fighting what?"

"That."

Nakamura Yuri pointed toward the distant track and field. "That's the enemy of the Afterlife Battlefront."

Through the sniper scope, the "enemy" came into sharp focus. It was a girl—the same one who played the piano in the opening sequence, Kanade Tachibana, the other main character.

Yet Nakamura Yuri referred to Kanade Tachibana as "the Angel."

"Hey, hey~"

Watching the "Angel" on the track, the Male Lead couldn't help but think, She just looks like a normal girl. What is this woman talking about?

With that thought, he asked Nakamura Yuri, "Um... can I go over there?"

"Huh?!"

This time, it was Nakamura Yuri's turn to be dumbfounded.

She quickly turned to face the Male Lead, looking utterly bewildered. "This is ridiculous! What are you thinking? Are you an idiot? Why don't you try dying once—though that's just a joke in this world where you can't die... Well? Funny?"

"Let's put the joke aside for a moment," the Male Lead explained. "At least I can have a normal conversation with her, unlike that guy over there who's pointing a gun at a girl."

This is how a normal person thinks.

Nakamura Yuri was slightly annoyed, but she quickly stood up, hands on her hips, and said calmly, "I'm your comrade. If you don't want me to aim at her, then I won't. Just trust me."

"Hmm~"

A bead of sweat appeared on the Male Lead's face, and he looked torn.

Just as he was struggling to decide, another voice called out, "Hey, Yuri! How's the new recruit recruitment going?"

A boy with a submachine gun jogged over from a distance. "We're short-handed right now, so we need to use any means necessary—even the most despicable—to..."

He suddenly realized something was wrong, patted his head, and made a puzzled "Huh?" sound.

Nakamura Yuri covered her forehead, looking utterly incredulous.

I've run into an incompetent teammate.

He had been so serious just moments ago, and then he suddenly pulled this stunt. It was hilarious.

After this incident, the Male Lead didn't hesitate to decide to join the "Angel" side.

He walked away without looking back, thinking to himself, What the hell were those people doing?

He soon arrived at the track and found Kanade Tachibana, the "Angel."

"Good evening. Um... someone just aimed a gun at you and said you were an angel or something," the Male Lead said, pointing behind him.

Kanade Tachibana tilted her head and glanced at him, denying, "I'm not an angel."

"See?" The Male Lead hadn't really believed she was an angel anyway.

"Student Council President," Kanade Tachibana introduced herself.

The Male Lead pressed his hand to his forehead, looking pained. "I'm such an idiot. That woman played me for a fool."

He quickly added, "Damn it! She doesn't even know who she is herself. Ugh, I should go to the hospital."

With that, he waved at Kanade Tachibana and turned to leave.

But before he could go far, Kanade Tachibana said, "There's no hospital here."

"Huh? Why not?" The Male Lead stopped, utterly bewildered.

"Because no one here gets sick."

"What do you mean 'no one gets sick'?"

"Because everyone here is already dead."

"..."

The moon broke through the clouds, illuminating the faces of the Male Lead and Kanade Tachibana, and the atmosphere suddenly froze.

After two seconds, the Male Lead pointed at Kanade Tachibana, his voice tinged with anger. "Ah, I get it! You're in on it with them, aren't you? Trying to trick me? What the hell? Did you have something to do with my amnesia too?"

"Amnesia is common for newcomers here," Kanade Tachibana explained calmly. "Brain damage can also occur in accidents."

The Male Lead naturally didn't believe her. "Then prove it to me! I'm already dead, I can't die again..."

He got his wish, and then some.

Before he could finish his sentence, Kanade Tachibana took a step closer, chanting "HAND SONIC." A light sword materialized in her hand, gradually solidifying into a real blade.

The next instant, Kanade Tachibana's sword pierced through the Male Lead's chest.

The unexpected plot twist, while surprising, once again evoked a sense of absurd humor.

After being pierced through the chest, the Male Lead naturally lost consciousness. When he woke up again, the time had shifted from night to day.

He lay shirtless on a hospital bed in the school infirmary.

Remembering the scene from before, he jolted upright in alarm. He patted his chest, but found no trace of any injury.

A shirt lay on the chair beside him—his own.

He picked it up and glanced at it, his blood running cold at the sight of it drenched in blood. He quickly threw it down.

After that, he encountered one member after another of the Afterlife Battlefront, gradually understanding everything: the afterlife was real, and once dead, you could never die again.

Once he accepted this reality, he chose to join the Afterlife Battlefront. He joined his companions in their antics, fought against the "Angels," and even participated in an operation that stole all the students' meal tickets.

The Afterlife Battlefront was full of quirky characters, each one entertaining in their own way. The entire first episode was lighthearted and hilarious, with several moments that had the audience in stitches. At least Koyama Eri and Fujimiya Chiyoko, watching on their TV, laughed multiple times.

After the first episode ended, they shared their thoughts:

"This animation is really fun."

"Yeah, it's completely different from Anohana last time, but it's really interesting."
