Chapter 4 - ch4

The man entered the bank like he belonged there. He took a number from the dispenser, stood in line, checked his phone once, and waited while a woman ahead of him argued about overdraft fees. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the counter smiling.

The teller glanced at her screen. "Withdrawal or deposit today, Mr…?" "Darson," he said easily. "Robin Darson." "Don't bother checking for my account I actually don't have one, I'm here to rob this place." "Excuse me?" She blinked.

Robin's hand settled on the steel edge of the counter. At first, nothing happened. Then the steel rippled outward towards his palm , flowing up his arm like liquid. His skin darkened, hardening, seams forming where flesh gave way to the steel. He was actively absorbing and taking the form of the steel material.

The teller eyes widened. "Rogue awakener" she screamed out. She slammed her Palm under the counter, hitting the silent alarm beneath the desk as she scrambled back. By the time she looked up again, Robin's skin had fully turned to steel, He tore the counter free from its anchors and hurled it aside like it weighed nothing.

People started running.

Robin didn't bother chasing them. He walked straight toward the vault door as alarms finally began to wail. Security guards raised their weapons. He didn't slow down. The first guard fired. The bullet flattened against Robin's shoulder and clattered to the floor.

Robin darted a punch at him, The guard folded, thrown across the lobby into a marble column that cracked on impact.

The vault didn't open fast enough, so Robin opened it himself. He braced, drove his reinforced hands into the door, and pulled. Steel screamed against steel, Bolts sheared. The door tore loose and slammed into the far wall. Inside, he worked fast, scooping cash, ripping deposit boxes free, shoving everything into a bag. The Sirens were already close, Robin burst through the front doors just as police cruisers skidded into place. Officers shouted. Guns came up.

They fired. Rounds sparked and ricocheted, some bouncing off him, punching dents into the street and nearby cars instead. The officers opened continuous fire, the bullets that's aren't bouncing him we're going through the bag he had all the stolen money in, this made robin angry causing him to charge. He grabbed the front end of a cruiser and with his now enhanced strength, he flipped it. It slammed down onto another car, causing fuel to ignite as the vehicle's collapsed into each other . An officer tried to crawl out before the fire took hold, His scream echoed, sounding of terror as the fire started burning his flesh…

-"I hear them…..their screams"-

Robin kicked another cruiser sideways into a squad that had just arrived, the collision triggering an explosion that sent shrapnel screaming through the air. Heat washed over the street. Smoke billowed. Someone was screaming, then another, then more. Police tried to pull civilians back. Someone tripped. Someone else dragged them up. Chaos swallowed the block.

Five kilometers away, on the edge of a twenty-five-story building, another man sat crouched on the rooftop.

His head snapped up.

"I hear them…..their screams"

He could hear it. the panic, the explosions, the raw, terrified noise of too many people in danger at once. His jaw tightened. "They're in danger," he muttered. "They need help."

He leaned forward and jumped, For a split second, he was just falling. Then the air caught him. His body twisted violently as invisible force seized his momentum and ripped it sideways. Windows along the building shattered as the forceful motion caused shockwaves.

> BOOM<

He shot forward, a blur of motion and pressure, tearing through the skyline toward the smoke and fire below.

And the real fight was about to begin.
