Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 09: Prey

MYKEL'S POV:

As we sat in the café eating ice cream, I noticed her attention drifting. Her eyes weren't on me or on ice cream anymore. They were fixed on something or someone else.

I followed her gaze.

A man sat to the right, sipping his coffee.

My fist clenched instantly.

Him.

Her ex.

I knew every one of her exes, from middle school to the latest one, Jacob, the man before she married me. Their eyes locked, and something dark twisted in my chest. I wanted to poke his eyes for even daring to look at her.

And then he walk over to our table.

The audacity.

She introduced me to him. When he stretched his hand toward me for a handshake, I wanted to break it, twist it until he screamed. But I swallowed my rage and smiled for her sake.

As he talked to her "friendly". I wanted to slap him. Punch him. Teach him what happens when a man forgets his place and talks to another man's wife, especially to mine.

When he finally excused himself and walked away, my eyes followed him like a predator watching wounded prey.

I wanted to stab him from behind and kick his ass out so that he would never come back again.

As we walked down the street later, I asked her about him, even though I already knew everything he had done to her.

She looked away, hiding her tears. I saw it, the pain, the memories, the scars he left behind. His existence alone was enough to hurt her.

That was when I decided.

He had to be removed before it got worse.

As we entered the hotel, I texted my friend Chris, telling him to call me in three minutes. Right on time, my phone rang. I excused myself, telling her it was an important call.

I hated lying to her.

But I couldn't tell her the truth.

I couldn't tell her that I was about to murder the person who ruined her highschool life.

She's too pure. Too innocent. People have taken advantage of that for far too long, knowing she would never fight back.

Not anymore.

I promise you, love. if someone makes you cry, even for a second… if someone's memory hurts you, I'll find that son of a bitch and hunt him down until he begs for his death Infront of me, and I would still show no mercy and send them straight to hell.

I tracked him to a riverbank. He was there, kissing a girl or fooling someone again in his fucking pathetic trap, he was acting totally carefree, like nothing he'd done ever mattered.

Pathetic.

I waited behind the tree. When the moment came and the girl went away, I moved silently to the tree behind him. And attack him from behind, I held his neck with my elbow and slit his throat and throw him in the river and wiped all the blood and left without a trace.

I took care of everything, changed my clothes, erased every sign, made sure nothing could ever lead back to me.

Then I returned to the hotel.

She was already asleep when I entered the room. Peaceful. Safe.

I took a shower, dressed for the night, and slipped into bed beside her. As I closed my eyes, a satisfied smile tugged at my lips.

Justice had been served.

She would never have to suffer because of him again.
