Chapter 18 - Suitable Information Channel

In the Chainsaw Man worldview, when devils are killed in the human world, they revive in Hell, but their memories are formatted.

Their existence depends on the intensity of human fear towards a specific concept. The stronger the fear, the greater the devil's power and the faster its revival.

For example, the Gun Devil possesses destructive power due to global fear of firearms. However, conversely, if the world no longer fears this concept, the Gun devil will be greatly weakened.

Of course, this immortality is not absolute. Devils eaten by the Chainsaw Devil disappear completely and cannot be reborn, and the concepts they represent also vanish from human cognition.

After Sukuna successfully collected the "Ghost Devil" and activated the [Demonic Body (Core Trait)], he formally incorporated the concept of "Devil" into his own existential system, thereby acquiring a unique form of immortality based on "fear anchoring."

Even if he truly dies, he will revive. Of course, unlike most devils that revive in Hell, Sukuna's origin is not Hell.

He is the King of Curses, stemming from the negative emotions of humans in this world. Therefore, his revival mechanism tends to involve re-forming in a location in the current world where conceptual fear is most concentrated, or where he has the strongest connection to his existence.

Sukuna's consciousness swept over the two "core concepts" he currently held.

One is the newly acquired "Ghost." This is a primitive fear of the unknown, of spirits, and of invisible things, widely present in the human subconscious. This fear is like air, omnipresent, covering almost the entire human population. But precisely because what it represents is too broad and lacks substance, it also appears thin, shallow, and lacks specificity.

Or rather, the unknown, the undead, and ghosts contained within this concept are all being divided up by other devils. The portion attributed to the Ghost Devil is minimal.

The second is the very foundation of his existence for a thousand years—"Ryomen Sukuna."

The fear of this concept, however, goes to another extreme. In the folk legends of ordinary people, he is more of a symbolized, vaguely defined "ancient evil spirit," whose specific terror has been diluted by time, mixed in with the myriad of night-parading demons, bringing more a sense of curiosity and detachment than true fear.

But in the Jujutsu World, where his true nature is known, that fear is profound—an extreme dread of his absolute power, cruel tyranny, and the indelible mark of that dark era.

The quality of this fear is extremely high. A single trace can outweigh the general fear of "ghosts" held by tens of thousands of ordinary people.

But Sukuna's image is too specific and its spread is extremely limited, it's even worse than a ghost.

Even in his previous life, having the popularity of Jujutsu Kaisen as a foundation would be more useful than in this place.

He ignored the Exorcism Division members kneeling on the ground, as if they were mere pebbles by the roadside. His attention turned to more practical matters.

Coming to this world, which seemed to fuse various power systems, and stumbling around like a headless fly, was undoubtedly inefficient and foolish.

Official organizations, like the "Public Security Exorcist Division" before him, had too many rules and restrictions. He had no interest in being their pawn.

Therefore, the best channels for acquiring information and seeking "interesting" things, such as other scattered fingers, or powerful Curses, Devils, and so on, were naturally those loose, civilian organizations operating in the gray areas.

Sukuna's gaze fell once more on Himeno, who was kneeling at the very front. That gaze was almost tangible, pressing down on Himeno until she could barely breathe.

"Public Security Exorcist Division..."

Sukuna, using Utaha's clear, cold voice, spoke words that were completely different from his true self's style, yet equally oppressive.

"Do you know the contact information for civilian Devil Hunter organizations?"

His tone was flat, yet carried an undeniable command.

Himeno suddenly looked up, her face filled with astonishment. She hadn't expected this terrifying being to ask such a question.

Civilian Devil Hunter organizations were usually composed of scattered individuals with certain supernatural abilities who were unwilling or unable to be absorbed by official channels. They were a mixed bag, both good and bad, and their relationship with official agencies was sometimes cooperative, sometimes contentious.

Public Security had contact channels for some larger, more well-known civilian organizations, used for necessary intelligence exchange or limited cooperation.

"Y-yes, I do!" Himeno didn't dare to hesitate for a moment, quickly replying.

Her thoughts were chaotic, the scene of the world-altering domain and the instant annihilation of the devil flashing repeatedly in her mind.

In terms of age and appearance, the girl before her was excessively young, but the awe inspired by that power had long since overridden all doubts.

With trembling hands, she took out a specialized, encrypted-chip-equipped phone from a concealed pocket on her tactical belt.

"Th-this... this contains an entry program for a certified encrypted online forum and a temporary identity key." Himeno held the phone with both hands, raising it high like an offering.

"The forum requires a specific network environment and identity verification to enter. Inside... quite a few civilian organizations and lone 'hunters' are active, and the information channels are quite varied, but... should be fairly comprehensive."

Sukuna controlled Utaha's hand, casually taking the phone, his fingertips touching the cold metal casing. He didn't even inspect it, his powerful senses had already told him there were no traps.

"Mm." He responded faintly.

With a slight thought, an invisible force lifted the phone, directly connecting it to the forum hidden deep within the dark web.

Indeed, it was as Sukuna had expected. The forum interface was crude and hidden, filled with various codenames, jargon, and mission requests.

People seeking special materials, recruiting temporary members to explore dangerous places, selling "sacred objects" of unknown origin, or even bounties for specific devils or anomalies.

The information was bizarre and chaotic, a true mix of good and bad, but it was an excellent window into the dynamics of this world's dark side.

Having obtained what he wanted, Sukuna immediately lost interest in staying. The fear and reverence of these official personnel held no value for him.

He didn't even spare another glance at the kneeling crowd on the ground. Controlling Utaha's body, he turned and walked away. Utaha's figure quickly merged into the distant darkness, disappearing in a few leaps, as if she had never appeared.
