He'd gone for it.
Asa had actually agreed to my idea. Excitement shot through me as I packed my suitcase. I'd been so nervous and thrilled that he'd agreed to my terms, I'd had to get away from him. I'd worried I'd make a fool of myself if I didn't make a quick exit. It was still mystifying to me why I felt compelled to keep Asa near me. But I did. I was relieved he wanted the same thing.
Naturally, there was also guilt nipping at me. But for once, I was trying to work through that guilt instead of just shutting down. I knew if I didn't change how I treated Asa, he'd leave me. The thought of that left a hollow pit in my stomach. Even though he hadn't even been in my home for four days, I craved his warmth and companionship.
