Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: avatars Competing for Favor

Aside from some cheap small items, like "Transponder Snails," "Sea Prism Stone," and the like...

The pinned section also had several more expensive items—

"Exclusive Upgrade: Ghost Princess (Grade A)"

"Price: 10,000 simulation value"

————————————

"Permanent Summon: Kumashi (Zombie Bear Doll)"

"Price: 50 simulation value"

"Description: Perona's favorite zombie servant. Extremely loyal and hollow inside, it can be used to hide people or items."

————————————

"Time-Limited Summon: Gecko Moria (Former Seven Warlords of the Sea)"

"Price: 3,200 simulation value"

"Description: Captain of the Thriller Bark Pirates, former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and user of the Shadow-Shadow Fruit. He took in Perona as a child and raised her as a daughter. Once summoned, he can assist for 1 hour with a 24-hour cooldown."

"Holy crap, so cheap!"

Su Modie exclaimed in surprise.

Especially that Kumashi—it only cost 50 simulation value points? And it's a permanent summon?

You have to realize, Reze's "Typhoon Devil" cost as much as 5,000 points, and it was time-limited!

The price of this Zombie Bear wasn't even one percent of the Typhoon Devil's; it was practically being given away for free!

Even Gecko Moria, a former Warlord, was significantly cheaper than the Typhoon Devil at 3,200 points?

What was this? A friendship discount?

"Pfft..."

Hearing Su Modie's report, Reze, who was nearby, couldn't help but laugh out loud.

She lazily rested her chin on her hand, looking at Perona with a playful gaze. "Oh my, is this your status? Little ghost."

"Dragging your whole family along—a boss and a stuffed bear—and their combined worth is about as much as one of the Typhoon Devil's legs."

"It seems everyone is very clear on who is strong and who is weak, and who is more useful."

Reze's words were barbed.

She expected Perona to fly into a rage.

But this time, the pink-haired girl didn't bristle.

Perona crossed her arms, her gaze suddenly turning somewhat serious.

"Kumashi may be weak, but he is my most loyal servant. He stayed by my side when I was at my loneliest."

"My Lord Moria raised me from childhood and cared for me like a father. He is a very good person."

At this point, Perona turned her head, her large eyes staring directly at Reze.

"What about you? Bomb Girl."

"What is your relationship with that Typhoon Devil of yours? Temporary partners? Tools for killing? I doubt it's a relationship where you can share your heart, right?"

The corner of Perona's mouth curled into a mocking arc, her words cutting deep.

"Even if my things are cheap, at least I have people I care about who can be summoned."

"But you? In this mall, aside from weapons and accomplices in slaughter, I bet... there isn't a single person important to you who can be summoned, is there?"

The air instantly froze.

This single sentence stepped precisely on Reze's most painful landmine.

As an Agent trained by the Soviet Union, her entire life was built on lies and missions.

She had no family, no friends.

In the mall, she indeed had no options belonging to "family" or "bonds."

"You..."

Reze's originally lazy expression crumbled instantly, her cyan pupils contracting violently.

She was so angry her eyelids were twitching.

Her right hand moved almost by instinct, reaching directly for the pull-ring on her neck!

"I'll blow you up!!!"

"Holy shit! Don't!"

Su Modie was so startled she jumped straight off the bed.

What the hell were these two avatars trying to do?

They were going to tear the house down if she didn't watch them for a second?!

However, before Su Modie could intervene.

Perona had already made the first move.

The girl raised her hand and released a Negative Ghost she had already prepared, which passed straight through Reze's chest.

Whoosh—

Reze, who had been full of murderous intent with her finger already hooked in the ring, suddenly went stiff.

In the next second.

The cold-blooded Soviet Agent, the ruthless bomb demon, was like a stray cat caught in the rain, slowly walking to the corner.

She squatted down, hugging her knees and burying her head deep in her arms. The atmospheric pressure around her dropped to its lowest point.

"I really... don't deserve a normal life..."

Reze's voice carried a thick sob and self-loathing, a depression stemming from the depths of her soul.

"For a woman like me with blood on her hands, so-called ordinary happiness had nothing to do with a monster like me from the very beginning..."

"I only deserve to be a rat in the sewers..."

"..."

The room fell into a dead silence.

Both Su Modie and Perona were stunned.

Perona had only intended to make her shut up; she hadn't expected the effect to be so overkill.

Looking at Reze squatting in the corner, moping and muttering to herself, Perona suddenly panicked.

"Hey, hey! Don't take it seriously! I was just joking..."

Perona hurried over, wanting to touch her but not daring to. Her appearance, like a child who had done something wrong, was exceptionally cute.

"I-I'll just cancel the ability, okay! I'm sorry! I didn't expect you to be so fierce on the outside but so fragile on the inside!"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."

Su Modie watched these two avatars bickering one moment and sympathizing with each other the next, not knowing whether to cry or laugh.

She had always thought her mental state was healthy, just a bit lonely as a transmigrator in a foreign land.

But looking at it now... she really didn't know if these "wicked girl avatars" were influencing her, or if some subconscious part of her inner self had been thoroughly triggered.

In short, even though they were all essentially the same person, not one of these wicked girl avatars had a normal personality. She still had to keep a personal eye on them.

Otherwise, if she ended up fighting herself because of personality clashes and blew the house sky-high, wouldn't the losses outweigh the gains?

As the effect of the Negative Ghost faded, the gloom in Reze's eyes vanished.

Perona somewhat guiltily reached out to help her up.

Slap!

Reze gave a cold snort and unceremoniously slapped Perona's hand away, clearly very annoyed.

"Stop being so hypocritical." Reze stood up, brushed the dust off her clothes, and looked at her with disdain. "You think I'd really pull the ring and blow myself up? I'm not an idiot. This is the house Modie-chan just rented. I was just scaring a little girl like you who hasn't seen the World."

Not to mention Su Modie was right there; how could she possibly detonate in such a cramped space?

"You!" Perona was speechless with anger.

Reze ignored her, pushing straight past Perona to the side of Su Modie, who was also still in a daze.

"While I indeed don't have friends and family like you do, I have something even more precious—something you definitely don't have."

Perona looked bewildered. "Huh? What nonsense are you talking about?"

Reze's slender arms reached out, wrapping directly around Su Modie's waist from behind. She leaned against Su Modie as if she had no bones, her chin resting on her shoulder, and flashed a cunning smile at Perona.

"I am Modie-chan's first avatar."

"I saved her. In this dangerous World, I was the one who helped her earn her first pot of gold."

Reze's voice was like a devil's whisper. "No matter how many avatars there are in the future, the person she loves most will always be me."

"Because—the first time is always the most memorable, and I am Modie-chan's first!"

As Reze spoke, as if for revenge, she made an extremely annoying face at Perona.

She stuck out her pink little tongue and wiggled it rapidly up and down. Without saying a word, she let out a series of muffled yet incredibly arrogant "Bleeeh—!" sounds, making Perona's small face turn bright red with rage..

Seeing Perona heating up, Reze stuck her tongue out even further and smugly shook her head, her short purple hair flying with the movement. That head-bobbing little look practically had the words "carried away with success" written all over it.

How did this look like a human killing machine from the Soviet Union... it was more like... Su Modie: Is she a child... Perona: Damn it, I'm hard... my fists are hard...
