If he had expected a crack in her composure at that slight mention, he got nothing from her except the immediate well-timed confusion that colored her face.
Otherwise, she remained far from reactive.
Two beats passed between them, then—
"You think I am a spy?" She said in an even voice, taking him on with the kind of condensed confusion only a falsely accused thief would give away.
Before she could answer, she threw her head back, laughter escaping her throat.
"What else?" She said in a teasing voice, "next you might just think I am some legendary assassin."
She wiped away tears from her eyes, while she briefly caught sight of a round table of four brides who were scowling at her like she was having the time of the day, while they were stuck at the audience seat, forced to watch them.
Before she could fully process then movement, he gripped her hand, tugging her to him in a manner that made the whole room hold their breath.
