"My turn is over. Your move, little Malfoy."
Sirius looked at Draco with absolute confidence.
His luck felt excellent. He had drawn his trump card at the start.
With that high-power card, he would crush his way straight to victory.
As he thought that, Sirius looked toward Harry in the players' area.
'Once I win this tournament, you will look at me differently.'
That was Sirius's way of trying to connect with Harry.
Unfortunately, reality was far less generous than his imagination.
"Using that card in front of me? You really are interesting."
Draco drew a card of his own and held it face down toward Sirius.
"Then I summon as well: Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
Another dragon identical to Sirius's appeared on the field.
For a moment, it almost seemed as if Draco's dragon was slightly larger.
No.
It was not an illusion.
"The same white dragon. Neither of us can do anything to the other," Sirius said after a brief surprise.
He still sounded confident. He had plenty of high-power cards in his hand.
What he did not notice was that his cards were strong, but...
"Is that so?"
Draco sneered and drew a second card.
No one understood Blue-Eyes White Dragon better than he did.
What Sirius was doing in front of him was like showing off a crude trick before an expert.
"I summon the second Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
Then came the third card.
"I summon the third Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
Draco summoned three Blue-Eyes White Dragons one after another.
Sirius stared.
Was Blue-Eyes White Dragon not an ultra-rare card? Why did this brat have three?
But it was not over.
Draco drew a fourth card.
'Does he have a fourth Blue-Eyes?'
No.
This card was not Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
It was a spell card.
Its effect had only one word:
Fusion.
The card effect activated. The bodies of Draco's three Blue-Eyes White Dragons began to change.
They gradually fused together.
In their place appeared a new dragon.
It had three Blue-Eyes White Dragon heads, and its body was far larger than any single dragon. Sirius's Blue-Eyes looked like a hatchling beside it.
This was the legendary creature at the very top of the magical beast cards:
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.
"I have already won."
Draco's Ultimate Dragon unleashed Burst Stream of Destruction. The shadow of Sirius's card shattered into countless sparks of light.
"My turn is over."
Draco placed one card face down and ended his turn.
"Is Black going to lose? Even Blue-Eyes White Dragon was beaten."
The wizards below began discussing it.
One pointed at Sirius on the stage. "Not necessarily. He still looks confident."
"Heh heh heh."
Sirius was not panicked by the loss of one card. He calmly took out another.
This was his trump card.
"I summon: Minister for Magic Fudge!"
In an instant, the entire arena seemed to change. Countless flashy magic circles rose as the image of a solemn elder appeared, moving with absurd, exaggerated majesty.
'He looks nothing like Fudge himself.'
Sirius did not like the Minister and did not understand why the card's stats were so high, but strong was strong.
In truth, this card had been made according to Fudge's own repeated hints. The Minister had more than once implied that he wanted his card to look powerful, so Dudley had given the image an epic-level upgrade.
His entrance animation was even grander than Dumbledore's.
Fudge himself had been extremely satisfied.
Unfortunately, satisfaction did not equal usefulness.
When Sirius summoned the card, the skilled Wizard Card players below all wore strange expressions.
'He summoned... Fudge?'
'Did I hear that right? He actually summoned Fudge?'
'How did someone at this level reach the top eight?'
Was the Fudge card strong?
On paper, yes. Its numbers were absurdly high, not much weaker than Dumbledore's.
Was it easy to use?
Anyone who had tried it knew the answer.
Without the right support deck, the card was not merely difficult to use. It could ruin its own player's field.
Never be fooled by the numbers.
"Defeat him, Fudge!"
Sirius shouted excitedly. By raw stats, the Minister was a little stronger than Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.
The summoned card did nothing.
The image simply glanced at Sirius, then dissolved.
That was the trap of the Fudge card. Without matching cards and conditions, he would not listen to the player at all and would waste the summon.
Of course, Fudge himself did not know this.
Even if someone asked Dudley, Dudley had an explanation ready:
The Minister for Magic was not someone any random person could command.
Fudge would probably like that explanation very much.
Practical usefulness aside, the card's numbers certainly looked strong.
Sirius lost without much drama and finished in the top eight.
In the semifinals, Harry and Draco each faced an adult wizard and both won easily.
The final match was between them.
"Duel me, Potter!"
Draco looked thrilled. He always got like this against his favorite rival.
"I will not lose to you, Malfoy," Harry said, just as happily.
This time, however, he did not use his usual deck.
He took out the one Dudley had given him.
Harry began summoning.
"I summon: Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl."
"I activate the spell card: Fiendfyre."
At first glance, Dudley's deck did not look too different from an ordinary one.
On the other side, Draco made his own summons:
An army made entirely of dragon cards.
With the familiar "Blue-Eyes White Dragon," the silver-white dragon appeared again.
At the same time, Harry drew a strange card.
"Sealed Left Leg?"
He looked at it without understanding. Because its numbers were too low, he set it aside for the moment and summoned other cards to respond.
"Special summon: Potions Master Snape!"
"Use card: Potion Enhancement!"
Relying on Snape's character effect, Harry barely suppressed the situation and trapped two of Draco's Blue-Eyes White Dragons.
Unfortunately, Draco drew the third one at the critical moment.
"Fusion. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon!"
The dragon with terrifying power appeared once more and broke through Harry's potion deck with overwhelming force.
But Draco was not finished.
He flipped another card.
"Special summon: Dragon Knight!"
"Activate Super Fusion!"
Dragon Knight plus Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.
"Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon Knight!"
"Summon!"
Draco still did not stop.
He summoned five dragon cards of different attributes one after another.
"Special fusion: Five-Headed Dragon!"
The wizards below stared at the two monster cards, whose power far surpassed ordinary character cards, and exclaimed in amazement.
So dragon decks were this strong?
Draco stood with both hands in his pockets, extremely pleased with himself.
He had prepared for this day for a long time, all to give his rival a surprise.
Then Harry's turn came.
Draw.
By now, the cards in his hand included the left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, torso, and head.
The card he had just drawn was the hidden card:
Mysterious Alumnus: Tom.
At that moment, the cards began to resonate.
Seven cards fused into one and became a new card.
"Release: Sealed Dark Wizard Tom!"
