Chapter 4 - Ch-4 Potential Upgrade

When Naoya opened his eyes, he found himself in an unfamiliar white room.

Lying on an uncomfortable bed, he had tubes attached to his body with a screen displaying his vitals beside him.

It was easy to guess where he was.

Staring at the ceiling, he felt dizzy, but trying to get up still hurt.

Looking around, no one was there.

"So I survived?"

After getting hit by Nue and slammed into the ground. Naoya wasn't actually sure he would survive.

Still he wanted to complete his mission and get those points.

The reason he had taunted and beaten Maki the way he did was because of the mission.

[20 potential points awarded for humiliating Maki Zenin]

Or at least he wanted to think that, but he knew he was having fun.

He didn't know when it started, but the moment he landed that first hit on Maki, he started losing control as if something primal had awakened in his body.

A sense of vindication that came from deep within his soul.

These weren't his feelings but rather Naoya's.

'Have I fully merged with Naoya instead of taking over his body?'

It was an annoying thought to know he wasn't in complete control of his own actions.

He would have to be more careful in the future.

Still, he almost messed up the world by killing Maki.

Assuming the world wasn't already messed up.

This was his favourite series.

Jujutsu Kaisen, so why did everything feel different?

Megumi, for example, at this point should be weaker than Maki or at most around her level.

And yet what he saw told a completely different story.

He could tell from start to finish, unlike the others, Megumi could see his every movement.

Megumi saw the match from start to finish and intervened when he was about to critically injure, if not kill, her.

Not only him but also his shikigami both divine dogs and nue were stronger than they should be.

In addition to the reverse cursed technique output.

A technique that only Yuta and Shoko should have was possessed by him.

"Fuck"

There was no denying it.

The Megumi of this world was a special grade.

Had the Megumi of this world actually realised his potential?

It was a scary thought, especially considering the body he was possessing and his relationship with Megumi.

As fun as it was to make fun of him, Naoya knew better than anyone how scary a Megumi that even realised half of his full potential was.

Even worse, his knowledge was basically obsolete.

In the first place, it's not like knowing the future gave some crazy advantages in the world of Jujutsu kaisen.

There's no cave where he can go to and get six eyes or some other broken power.

At most, he loosely remembered the location of some Sukuna fingers, which, unless he wanted an early death, would be useless.

What a tricky predicament he had gotten himself into.

At this point, he needed context to understand just what shenanigans the Naoya of the past had gotten up to.

Which, knowing what he did about Naoya's character, wasn't very promising, but more importantly about the world and just how different it was from what he knew.

But that would take time to go through.

He had barely managed to learn his technique before the match began.

And there was something else he had to address first.

After claiming the points from his previous quest, he opened his status screen.

Properly going through everything displayed.

There were a couple of things that caught his attention.

The first was the blackflash chance.

0.2 – that seemed about right considering how rare they were supposed to be.

He also tried clicking on them with points to see if it would go up.

Unfortunately, it didn't.

For now it was just an empty number that didn't mean much.

So moving past it were the physical combat and jujutsu talents.

It should be pretty self-explanatory what each of those meant.

Still, 2 in jujutsu talents kind of stung.

No wonder he couldn't reach 24 frames.

In the anime Naoya had actually reached 24 frames and even utilised the technique better than Naobito.

But he was also 12 years older than his current self.

And Naoya couldn't wait 12 years to naturally reach 24 frames with his abysmal talents.

He had to use his system if he wanted any hope of surviving or completing any of those absurd main quests.

In his opinion, projection sorcery was always one of the strongest techniques in the original anime that just never got to reach its full potential due to it's users.

Now that he could walk and had projection sorcery, he would become the world's fastest sorcerer.

Just when he was about to allocate everything into jujutsu stats.

Another window captured his attention.

Points needed for next Awakening:10[locked]

While not knowing what exactly was being upgraded.

He had to take a gamble.

With 20 points, not only could he awaken but also still have 10 points left over.

Assuming the system wasn't a troll, this awakening should likely be something useful.

Without any more hesitation, Naoya clicked it.

And in the next moment.

An unbearable pain unlike any he had experienced before overwhelmed him, and every cell in his body exploded.

Blood rushed out of his every orifice.

Dying the ground red as the bed he was lying on broke.

Before finally his heart stopped.

Naoya Zenin had died
