Ava's Pov:
I had been staring at the same screen for almost ten minutes without actually reading anything.
The tabs were open, the ideas were there, the notes I had written earlier were still sitting neatly on the side of the page, but my mind kept drifting somewhere else. It wasn't even anything specific, just a constant pull away from whatever I was trying to focus on.
I adjusted my position on the bed, pulling my laptop closer as if that would help….. It didn't.
Caroline had gone out earlier, and for once, I didn't feel like I had to be on edge every second. It should've made it easier to concentrate, but somehow it didn't either.
I clicked on another tab, rereading the same paragraph for the third time before finally giving up and shutting the laptop halfway.
The door opened behind me.
I didn't need to turn to know it was Leon.
He looked… off.
I closed my laptop fully and set it aside.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
