Chapter 5 - A Magical Dance

As their conversation drew to a close, Cable glanced toward the ballroom, where the celebration was now in full swing.

"Shall we return to the festivities? My family will surely wonder if I've abandoned my brother's birthday party entirely," he said with a playful glint in his eyes.

Sofia smiled and nodded. "Yes, Prince Cable. I should also return to ensure everything is running smoothly."

Cable offered his arm with a gentle, courtly gesture. "Walk with me, Sofia. The music carries beautifully near the gardens."

Sofia walked beside him, maintaining a respectful distance as they re-entered the vibrant scene. The air was thick with laughter and the melodic swell of the orchestra as guests celebrated Crown Prince Liam's birthday. As they navigated the crowd, Cable's eyes would occasionally catch hers, sparking with warmth and a silent, friendly understanding.

Once they reached the edge of the dance floor, Cable turned to Sofia, his expression softening.

"Sofia, would you do me the honor of a dance?"

Sofia's heart skipped a beat at the request. She offered a soft smile and a slight nod of acceptance. Cable bowed his head and extended his hand once more, this time in a formal invitation.

Sofia placed her hand in his, and Cable gently drew her closer as the orchestra began a sweeping, beautiful waltz. As they swayed to the rhythm, Sofia felt as though she were floating. Cable's strong lead and effortless grace made her feel entirely carefree, as if the weight of her mysterious past had momentarily vanished.

Their movements were in perfect harmony, their connection transcending the light touch of their hands. Cable's navy blue eyes remained locked onto hers, filled with an affection that made Sofia's heart race with emotions she hadn't felt in a long time. The music, the atmosphere, and Cable's unwavering gaze blended into a magical sensation—it was as if time had stood still, leaving only the two of them dancing beneath the glittering crystal chandeliers.

Just as Sofia and Cable's dance concluded, the sweet melody of the orchestra suddenly felt thin and distant. In a darkened corner of the hall, Captain Orion approached King Julian with urgent strides. His face was slick with sweat, and his eyes mirrored a deep-seated unease.

"Your Majesty," Orion whispered, leaning in close. "Our scouts have just reported back. Heavy movement has been detected in the same sector of the jungle where the bodies were found. It feels as if something... is awakening."

King Julian's expression turned to flint. He cast a fleeting glance at the ongoing celebration and then gestured to Queen Ava. "Ava, we must leave at once. The threat is closer than we anticipated."

Queen Ava nodded solemnly, understanding the gravity of the situation without a single word being spoken. The King issued his command: "Captain, ready your elite squad. We ride for the jungle immediately. Let the festivities continue so as not to raise any alarm."

Armored and carrying flickering torches, the King, Queen, and a small contingent of soldiers slipped quietly through the palace's rear exit. Inside, the palace echoed with music and laughter, but outside, the dense, suffocating jungle awaited them, guarding a terrifying secret.

The grand ballroom shimmered with crystal chandeliers and lavish decorations as Crown Prince Liam's birthday celebration unfolded. Sofia moved discreetly among the guests, her efficiency as the new butler masking her internal thoughts.

Suddenly, a vision of elegance caught her eye a princess with:

Warm golden skin glowing in the soft amber light.

Raven-purple and black hair cascading down her back like midnight velvet.

Emerald green eyes sparkling with genuine kindness.

The princess approached Sofia with a disarming smile. "Greetings, I am Arya Breloff of the Breloff Kingdom. You seem a bit out of place among these courtiers—are you a guest or...?"

Sofia offered a graceful curtsy. "Sofia Monarch, the new butler of Eldrida Palace. I am still adjusting to the intricacies of royal events."

Arya laughed warmly. "I know the feeling perfectly. My own palace protocols still baffle me. May I call you Sofia, rather than 'Butler Sofia'?"

"Please do, Princess," Sofia replied.

"Just call me Arya," she insisted with a sweet smile.

As they sat near the garden doors, away from the formal crowd, Arya asked gently, "Sofia, you've adapted so quickly... but what is your story? What was life like before the palace?"

At that question, Sofia's expression faltered, and a vivid flashback seized her mind:

A forest glade under a cold moon... Sofia stood alone, her piercing red eyes wide with terror. Her clothes were splattered with dark blood, and her skin was as pale as marble. She whispered into the void: "What... what happened?"

Suddenly, the sound of crunching leaves snapped her back to reality. From the darkness of her memory, a figure emerged—a man with a strong jawline, olive skin, and piercing blue eyes.

Back in the present, Arya introduced the newcomer: "Sofia, this is Ethan Slade, my trusted Royal Guard." Watching their comfortable banter, Sofia felt a pang of longing for such an easy connection.

Overwhelmed, Sofia excused herself, only to collide with Prince Cable around the corner. He was leaning against a pillar, his navy blue eyes fixed on her.

"Lost in thought again, Sofia?" he asked softly.

He invited her to drop the formalities and call him "Cable." As they talked, they discovered they were kindred spirits. Sofia shared her love for nature, ballet, and her training in self-defense. Cable confessed his weakness for sweets and his love for strategy games. In that moment, Sofia felt a sense of comfort she hadn't experienced in years—as if she had known Cable for a lifetime.
