Chapter 28 - Preemptive Blood

The morning air over Eclipse Ascension Academy was crisp but heavy with tension. Word of Selene's public duel with the forbidden power user had spread throughout the campus, sending waves of awe, fear, and jealousy through the student body. Instructors whispered in corners, factions of heirs plotted in secret chambers, and even the academy's top council quietly debated how to respond.

Selene, however, was already in the hidden chamber beneath the academy, her crimson threads pulsating faintly in anticipation. Cael stood nearby, observing, his crimson aura glowing faintly like embers ready to ignite.

"Today," Cael said, voice calm but filled with authority, "we move beyond reaction. You have survived attacks, public challenges, and sabotage. Now, you will learn preemptive combat—using environment, perception, and life threads to anticipate and control threats before they materialize."

Selene's eyes narrowed, determination burning in their depths. "I'm ready, teacher. Teach me."

Cael began the lesson by reshaping the chamber. Walls shifted subtly, obstacles appeared, and simulated targets moved unpredictably. Shadows of life threads mimicked human opponents, each with varied combat styles and hidden mana signatures.

"Control is not just about fighting," Cael explained. "It is about understanding the battlefield, bending perception, influencing intent, and striking at the perfect moment. Every pulse of life can be used to predict, manipulate, and dominate. Preemption is the true form of mastery."

Selene's ribbons extended, coiling and twisting around obstacles, sensing every fluctuation in life energy. She learned to influence simulated opponents' movements subtly, redirecting their attacks before they fully committed. Her control extended to the environment itself—shifting objects, redirecting energy bursts, and using even shadows to conceal or manipulate movements.

Meanwhile, beyond the academy walls, the forbidden power user had fully aligned with Dorian Valerius.

"She has grown too strong," the intruder admitted. "We must manipulate the academy from within. Align factions, exploit weaknesses, and use observation to anticipate movements. The next confrontation will not be private—it will be public, and it must leave her vulnerable."

Dorian's lips curled into a faint, dangerous smile. "Very well. Prepare traps, covert surveillance, and subtle interference. The academy factions will serve us. And when the Blood Immortal falters, we strike decisively."

Back at the academy, factions among the instructors had escalated their sabotage. During official training and ranking matches, minor manipulations began to surface: opponents were subtly empowered or restrained, environmental hazards shifted unexpectedly, and false information spread among students.

Yet Selene, guided by Cael's teachings, anticipated and countered every interference. Her ribbons moved like living sentinels, influencing momentum, controlling perception, and subtly neutralizing manipulations.

The world tests you in subtle ways, Cael reminded her silently. Anticipate, adapt, and control.

By afternoon, Selene's training reached its climax. Cael orchestrated a multi-opponent simulation within the academy's main arena, combining environmental hazards, energy bursts, stealth maneuvers, and indirect interference—all designed to mimic real-world attacks from heirs, families, and supernatural agents.

Selene's ribbons extended, splitting into dozens of tendrils, each independently controlling an opponent's momentum, redirecting attacks, and maintaining her balance. Crimson threads coiled around obstacles, manipulating shadows and light to conceal her movements and anticipate ambushes.

Each strike, each movement, each manipulation was executed with near-perfect precision. The simulation ended with all targets immobilized, under her control, without a single error. Selene's chest heaved, crimson threads dissipating slowly back into her form.

"You have not only survived," Cael said softly, "but dominated the battlefield without revealing your full strength. Preemption is mastery. And mastery… ensures survival."

Far away, the forbidden power user reported back to Dorian Valerius.

"She anticipates everything now," the intruder said. "Environmental control, manipulation of momentum, and public dominance. If we continue as we are, the Blood Immortal and his disciple will remain untouchable. We must escalate."

Dorian's eyes glinted. "Then escalate we shall. Prepare infiltration into mortal cities. Begin sowing chaos. Test the Blood Immortal's influence beyond the academy. And the moment we find an opening… we strike."

Deep in the abyss, the Demon King observed, crimson eyes like molten fire.

"Yes," he murmured. "The disciple awakens fully. Families conspire. Shadows move. Mortal cities will be tested soon, and the flow of blood will spread beyond the academy walls. When it does… the world will remember the return of the Blood Immortal. And none shall escape unscathed."

As Selene wiped sweat from her brow, she looked up at Cael. "Teacher… I feel like I can sense everything before it happens. The environment, my opponents, even their intent. But it's overwhelming. How do I maintain control without losing myself?"

Cael placed a hand gently on her shoulder, crimson aura flaring subtly. "Awareness is the first step, discipline the second, and control the final. Remember: blood obeys intent. Life obeys the prepared. You have learned the crimson edge, dominance, and now preemption. The next stage… is applying these lessons to the world beyond these walls. Heirs, families, shadows, and monsters—none will wait for you to be ready. You must shape the battlefield first."

Selene nodded, determination burning brighter than ever. "I will master it… and I will survive. No matter what comes."

Cael's crimson gaze swept the shadows surrounding the academy and extended far beyond its walls. Factions within, the forbidden power user, Dorian Valerius, and agents of the Demon King—the threats were converging.

The storm approaches, he thought. But we… will shape it. And the Blood Immortal always survives.

The lesson of preemption had been learned. The threads of power, strategy, and survival were intertwined. And the next stage of dominance in this new era was ready to begin.
