(... A few moments back in time)
He didn't look back when he left.
That was the part that stuck.Not the shouting.That was a typical 'Caspian trait'. It was very…very easy for him to lose control.
Not even the way his voice cracked when he said "I wasn't there." I understood his emotions but I couldn't tell him they were misplaced. I knew it was wrong but it was right at the moment.It had to be done!
But the fact that he didn't look back…clawed at my heart. He was my mate after all… no matter the situation, no matter the years, the misunderstandings… the distance.
The tent flap was still swaying when his absence hit me hard.
I stood there for a full minute.
Maybe two.
Staring at the spot where he'd been.
My hands were still half-raised from when he'd grabbed them.
"Damn it, Caspian…" I muttered under my breath.
Outside, his camp was alive.
