Chapter 17 - 16. Addressing the Freshmen

(1st PoV)

It's official.

This school is full of psychos.

Nagumo Miyabi seems like bad news. For some reason, I think that he is obsessed with Horikita-senpai or something.

He seems intent on picking a fight with me.

So that's why Horikita-senpai said that I wouldn't sell the position in Student Council huh?

I looked at Suzune, and couldn't help but feel embarrassed. She seems to not really concerned about princess carrying me in front of the school, though she was embarrassed about h*lding h*nds in the morning.

She really is a weirdo.

"Are you thinking something rude?"

"Of course not."

Soon, Horikita-senpai began his speech.

"Suzune, I am going to check out Student Council."

She stiffened. She is really nervous about him, and it's all his fault.

"...Do as you wish."

After a while, his speech ended, and I started walking to the stage.

"Is it really okay to get up?"

"I will be fine for some time. Though you will have to carry me—"

"I won't carry you in front of everyone!"

She blurted out, and started blushing.

Oh.

So she IS embarrassed.

Just slow in terms of romance—not exactly. She made very quick progress on me.

So, is she slow or fast?

Let's just say that she is a weirdo through and through.

Anyway, I got to the stage, and thanks to Horikita-senpai, the crowd is still more or less silent.

"Good afternoon everyone. I am Hajime Hayato from class 1-A. I am borrowing your time to ask you all for something important.

In our phones, which have been provided by the school, there is a very invasive, creepy spyware feature, which allows anyone who knows your number to very accurately track your location. Down to the dorm room."

"What!?"

"What the hell!?"

"That's creepy!"

I nodded and continued, "There is a way to disable this function, by paying a certain amount of points. BUT!

We shouldn't pay to opt out of such invasion of privacy!

Our country, no, most countries in the world have digital illiterate elderly making the laws. And that's why Tech companies are easily able to violate our rights and privacy without a care.

This school is most likely an experimental institution, to test how far the government can push things without losing next elections. Testing how far it can push the surveillance on us.

That's why, we can't just obediently play by the rules made by the school when the school is in the clear wrong.

As students of this institution, it's our duty to push back against unacceptable things with a united front.

This is not China. Such spying on citizens is not acceptable at any cost.

We can't let them try to turn our country into a surveillance state.

So first-years, along with second and third years who aren't here, I request everyone to submit formal complaints against this ridiculous and creepy experiment to the Student Council, and demand compensation for violation of our privacy.

That's all I wanted to say.

Thank you Student Council for allowing me to address the gymnasium."

"Yeah! It's unacceptable!"

"We can't let them spy on us!"

"So they are using us as lab rats to see how far they can push things!? No wonder they are giving us 100,000 points a month! I was suspicious from the start!"

Turning the student body against the school for its unacceptable practice, telling everyone to complain to the Student Council, and mentioning that the Student Council allowed me to address the students... This way, the school wouldn't retaliate against me alone. Student Council will be caught in it too.

So, I will be most likely come out with minimal punishment and the school will back off to avoid more controversy and rage from the students.

I bowed and got off the stage, with Horikita-senpai staring at me.

I took out the complaint letter, and handed my phone to Suzune.

"Suzune, take photo of us."

"Alright."

So, as I handed the letter to him, Suzune took a photo.

And I uploaded it on school forum, with hashtag and all and encouraging everyone to post their complaint letter.

As more posts with complaint letters come, the students who are afraid of retaliation from the school will also come forward and follow the trend.

"Horikita-senpai, I didn't cause you any trouble, did I?"

He pushed his glasses and smirked, "No. This school respects student autonomy unlike any other. This matter is no trouble at all."

I frowned. He is saying it with this much confidence? He is 100% sure that this will not cause any trouble.

Respecting student autonomy? I don't believe any school does it if the said autonomy causes students to go against the school itself.

Nagumo came over again with his bitch-face, smirking and saying, "What an interesting kohai, causing trouble on the second day of the school."

"Nagumo, don't try to mislead him, that's against the Student Council rules."

"Sorry sorry."

Well, I don't want to remain here any longer.

Suzune was being uncomfortable in Horikita-senpai's presence.

I grabbed her hand, and started walking away with her.

"Horikita-senpai, discipline the Vice-President. He was being overly familiar with Suzune and calling her by her first name."

Saying that, we left the scene.

With the way Nagumo was looking at Suzune's uncomfortableness, it's now confirmed that he is a psycho.

And judging by Horikita-senpai's absolute confidence that my speech wouldn't cause any trouble, and the student autonomy is respected like nowhere else, it means that Student Council is exceptionally powerful in this school.

It means that I wouldn't sell the student council seat, just as Horikita-senpai expected.

It's really irritating how sharp that guy's insight is.
