Chapter 2 - 02 Moonlight Reflection

Have you ever stare at your own reflection using the moonlight?

It was a full moon that night. I remember because the light was so bright it didn't feel natural. I was bored, restless, and standing alone in the bathroom when I turned off the lights. The darkness should have filled the room, but the moonlight replaced it.

For some reason I was drawn to the mirror and started looking at my reflection off the mirror with the moonlight. As I continued stare at my own image I noticed my imaged started to warped and I don't recognize my own image anymore.

At first, it was just my reflection. Tired eyes, with a blank expression. Nothing unusual, but something about it made me uneasy… like seeing someone who looks exactly like you standing across from you, so I kept staring.

Seconds passed.

Or maybe minutes.

I'm not sure anymore.

Then I noticed my reflection was starting to warped. Slowly the image of me changed to a bloody version of myself that I don't recognize...staring back at me.

A chill shot right through my body. A tingly feeling surge through my face and travel through my body. It felt so creepy and unnatural causing my body to tremble.

I tried to step back, but my legs felt heavy, like my body wasn't fully mine anymore.

My reflection tilted its head slightly.

I didn't. That's when I realized I wasn't watching myself. I was watching something pretending to be me.

Its eyes looked wrong. Not dark. Not hollow. Just… an all consuming void that draws me in.

The corners of its mouth twitched upward. Slow. Careful. Practiced.

I tried to move. Tried to scream. Tried to look away, but I couldn't. As I am unable to break eye contact with this entity I felt my body trembling as if I am being consumed.

Then I heard my mother calling me for dinner.

The sound cut through everything. The heaviness in my body snapped. I stumbled forward, slammed the light switch on, and ran out of the bathroom without looking back.

Ever since, I can't look at my reflection in moonlight without feeling that same creeping unease.

When the next full moon rises, will you dare to gaze into a mirror bathed in its light and see what watches from the other side?
