Chapter 34 - The beginning of the end

Her face , Her smile

I tried to contact any of her acquaintances.

The orphanage where she grew up.

But she had no relatives.

Yet she was loved by many.

Everyone who heard the news from me wept for her.

She did this, saved that, helped this one, paid off that one's loan.

Damn it.

I still remember

Her smile in the restaurant.

And her joke that I was emotionless and slow.

She didn't know how much I cherished her.

I ordered everyone to investigate if she had any relatives.

But it was all in vain.

Damn it, she had no one but us.

She was all alone in this world.

We were allowed to see her one last time.

She was like a sleeping angel.

Michael stood before her as if time had deliberately frozen in that moment.

He looked at her, smiling.

It was as if he relived all their memories with every second he looked at her.

He approached with trembling steps, as if the distance between them was an ocean of memories.

This is the last look, he said to himself, trying to memorize the details of her face as if he feared his memory would fail him.

Her skin was pale. He reached out but didn't touch it, afraid to admit to death that it was no longer warm.

At that moment, he didn't cry; tears were too weak to bear the weight of her loss.

I led him out of the room and arranged the funeral. The coffin was beautiful.

A large coffin made of lightweight, flexible paulownia wood.

Michael stayed by her side the whole time.

Even after she was buried, he sat by her grave for hours.

I asked him if he wanted to say anything to her.

He just said he was sorry and that he would join her soon.

He looked at me and said, "We will destroy everyone. Get ready and tell the others to get ready."

I put everyone on alert and told my secretary to get me the golden golf clubs.

I told the dwarf to bring the weapons depots, but not to give anyone a weapon except on Michael's orders, and Michael's orders only.

The war has begun, and I am writing this now, hoping that this isn't an open ending.

Oh God, let the end of our enemies and our end be at the end of this war.

Because I am tired.
