Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Six Paths of Pleasure

Dawn was approaching, but Darian was wide awake.

Sitting cross-legged on the deck, bathed in the cool pre-dawn mist, he was diligently exploring his new body.

Superpowers. They are every boy's childhood dream. To fly, to fight evil, to be a hero. Darian felt like he had just won the lottery. Sleep was impossible when you could shoot lightning from your fingertips.

He clenched his fist. A white, translucent halo condensed around his knuckles. When he released the tension, tiny hairline cracks appeared in the air itself, accompanied by a low hum.

He stretched his cheek. It pulled out inches from his face, smooth and elastic, then snapped back without pain.

After an hour of trial and error, Darian had a rough map of his abilities. He jokingly called it the "Six Paths of Pleasure."

1. The Heavenly Path: Vibration

This was the power to cause tremors. The degree and range were adjustable. At full power (which he was nowhere near achieving yet), he imagined he could shatter the earth, crack the sea, and trigger tsunamis. Currently, he could just break ribs and crack air. It was a terrifyingly destructive offensive tool.

2. The Asura Path: Bio-Electricity

He could generate and manipulate high-voltage currents. It wasn't as potent as the Rumble-Rumble Fruit (Enel's logia), and he couldn't turn his body into lightning, but he could ionize the air to create conductive paths for his attacks. It was perfect for stunning enemies—or frying them.

3. The Hungry Ghost Path: Absorption

This was his battery charger. He could absorb various forms of energy—kinetic, electrical, thermal, and shockwaves—and convert them into stamina or accelerate his own healing. It also acted as a defense; if he could absorb an attack, it couldn't hurt him.

Limitation: There was a storage cap. If he tried to absorb too much (like a volcano or a thunderstrike from Enel), he would likely explode.

4. The Human Path: Silicone Body

Not rubber—Silicone. His entire biology—organs, skin, bones—had transmuted into a high-grade living silicone. It was durable, temperature resistant (from -100°C to 300°C), and elastic.

Derivative Ability: Invisibility. Since clear silicone is transparent, Darian realized that with practice, he could adjust his opacity to become 100% invisible.

5. The Animal Path: Lubrication

Similar to the Slip-Slip Fruit. He could emit a fluid halo that made him frictionless. Attacks would slide right off him. It also had the side effect of purging all impurities from his body, which explained his sudden transformation from an average Joe into a devastatingly handsome supermodel.

6. The Hell Path: Restriction/Enhancement

This was the weirdest one. He discovered he could "restrict" or compress his muscles to enhance their density, explosiveness, and speed. It worked like a limiter removal or a hydraulic press. By "locking" his body into higher gears, he could boost his physical stats by ten times or more. He dubbed this "Second Gear."

In summary: Devil Fruits are born from human desire. If that's true, then this fruit was the embodiment of... well, sensuality. Darian didn't think of himself as a hedonist, but the fruit had clearly chosen him.

Creak.

His experiments were interrupted by the cabin door opening. Nami stepped out, looking tired but softer than before.

"Darian," she said quietly. "Come inside for a minute."

"Oh."

Darian knew the drill. It was "nature calling" again. He stood up obediently and walked into the small cabin.

The door closed. This time, however, he didn't hear the scraping sound of a bo staff blocking the handle.

She trusts me, he realized.

He sat on the floor, back against the wall, respecting her privacy. Outside, the soft sound of water hitting the sea reached his ears.

Unlike the previous night, his heart didn't race. His new body was stronger, his mind clearer. He wasn't the weak, bewildered transmigrator anymore. He was a superhuman.

A few minutes later, the door opened again. Nami walked in, carrying Darian's blanket from the deck.

Darian looked at her, confused. I thought I was banished?

Nami met his gaze. Her eyes lingered for a split second on his face—it really was distracting how good-looking he was now—before she looked away, flushing slightly.

"It's cold outside," she said, her voice trying for arrogance but landing on awkwardness. "You owe me 1.1 billion Berries! If you freeze to death, how am I supposed to collect?"

1.1 Billion.

Darian stared at her deadpan. "The debt went up again?"

"Interest rates are killer in the East Blue," Nami huffed. "Now move over, you're blocking the floor space."

She pushed him aside gently and laid his blanket down next to her bed, creating a makeshift pallet.

"You sleep down here tonight," she announced, clapping her hands as if she had just solved a complex navigation puzzle.

Darian smiled. "Thanks, Nami."

He meant it. She had saved his life, and despite her obsession with money, she had a good heart.

"Idiot," she muttered, crawling into her own bed. "Just go to sleep."

Darian lay down, the exhaustion finally catching up to him. The floor was hard, but it was warm and dry.

Just as his eyes were closing, Nami's head popped out from under her quilt.

"Behave yourself," she warned, brandishing a shiny dagger. She pointed it meaningfully at his lower half. "Or I'll prune your fruit."

"Okay! Okay! Sleeping! See?" Darian threw his hands up in surrender and squeezed his eyes shut.

Nami watched him for a moment longer, then retreated under her covers, hiding a small smile.

Within minutes, the soft rhythm of Darian's breathing filled the small cabin. He was asleep.
