Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Structural Weakness

A goblin fell out of the rift.

It was an ugly thing. It was about three feet tall with skin the color of curdled milk and eyes that burned with a nasty yellow light. It held a jagged, rusty knife.

It looked at Mr Miller. It hissed.

Mr Miller froze. It was the classic prey response. He was going to die.

I didn't charge. I didn't swing my axe. I was an Architect, not a Berserker. I looked at the goblin, and then I looked at the environment.

A blue grid overlaid my vision. It was the [Architect's Eye], my passive Level 1 skill. It showed me stress points. It showed me load-bearing structures.

It showed me that the tall metal shelving unit next to the goblin was held up by a single, rusty bolt near the floor.

[Structural Weakness Detected.]

I didn't scream a battle cry. I simply took a step forward and brought the heel of my boot down hard on the bottom shelf.

The impact vibrated through the metal. The rusty bolt snapped with a sharp ping.

The entire shelving unit, laden with heavy cans of paint and primer, tipped forward.

The goblin looked up just in time to see a tidal wave of Sherwin-Williams descend upon it. There was a wet crunch, followed by the explosion of paint cans.

"Go to the basement," I told Mr Miller calmly.

This time, he didn't argue. He ran.
