Chapter 37 - 37. Special Skills - Scan

Jubilife Breeding Center.

"Since Feebas is at least eating now, there's no need to rush things. Just give it time and be patient," Blue advised.

Before leaving, Blue was still concerned about Feebas's recovery.

"Don't worry. We'll take good care of it," Wayne assured him.

Even with Wayne, Blue, Kinsley, and others taking turns spending time with it, Feebas still hadn't taken its first step toward trusting humans again.

However, Blue felt that if Feebas stayed here at the Breeding Center, it would overcome its fear sooner or later.

Wayne had the ability to help it heal.

"If Feebas gets better, I'll contact you by phone immediately," Wayne promised.

Blue shook his phone slightly. They had already exchanged contact information over the past week.

"I'm leaving now. No need to see me off," Blue said.

Blue had come quickly, and he left just as fast—disappearing into the sky on his Charizard's back.

"Take care! Have a safe trip!" Wayne called out.

Leon and Fumie also came outside to see Blue off properly.

They had all witnessed Blue's selfless and dedicated teaching over the past seven days.

Claire shouted loudly toward the sky as well. "Thank you so much, Mr. Blue!"

"Why aren't you thanking him?" Claire turned to Alan, very dissatisfied that he had shown no gratitude whatsoever.

Men, she thought with exasperation.

Alan shrugged casually. "He stayed at my house for the past seven days. I already thanked him thoroughly last night."

"I'm so envious..." Claire sighed.

Women, Alan thought with amusement.

Alan didn't understand what there was to be envious about, though he had to admit he also really liked Blue as a person and mentor.

Fumie gently reminded Wayne, "Don't forget to thank your grandpa too. Make sure to call him later."

Wayne nodded. "I know, don't worry. I report to Grandpa every single day anyway."

Leon chuckled proudly. "As expected of my son! So filial!"

Wayne stopped paying attention to what his father was saying and focused on checking the system rewards that had just appeared.

"Ding! Side quest 'Blue's Approval' has been completed. Acquiring special skill—Scan (Intermediate)."

"Ding! Detected that Blue is extremely satisfied with your progress. Upgrading to special skill—Scan (Advanced)."

"Scan? How is it different from Eye of Appraisal?" Wayne wondered aloud to himself.

The system explanation appeared:

Scan (Advanced): With the host as the center, automatically detects rare ownerless Pokémon within a hundred-mile radius. (Cannot be upgraded through experience.)

Note 1: Rare Pokémon refers to Legendary Pokémon, Mythical Pokémon, commonly known as 'Pseudo-Legendary' Pokémon with exceptional potential, and Shiny Pokémon.

Note 2: The system automatically detects 24 hours a day, only providing specific locations. Whether to capture is decided by the host.

Immediately, new notifications began appearing.

"Ding! A rare Pokémon has been detected in your city."

"Type: Pokémon with exceptional potential"

"Rarity: Medium"

"Capture Difficulty: Undetermined"

"Danger Level: Medium"

"Ding! A rare Pokémon has been detected in your city."

The notifications continued.

The Scan skill functioned like a radar system, displaying a blue virtual panel in Wayne's vision.

In the one o'clock direction, two green dots were flashing on the display, essentially overlapping each other's positions.

According to the system's classification, Pokémon with exceptional potential were the commonly known "Pseudo-Legendary" species.

Wayne immediately guessed this should be a pair—likely a Pseudo-Legendary mother and her child.

The one o'clock direction... Wayne looked in that direction. It was the back mountain area that Lucario had been regularly visiting for training recently.

There was no immediate rush to find these two Pokémon. The system would keep detecting them automatically anyway, so they wouldn't disappear.

Wayne had been intensively busy for seven straight days. It was definitely time to work on his next video.

More importantly, he had to complete his main quest first—Advancing Breeding House.

Current Quest Progress: (91/100)

Making money to support the business was the absolute priority right now.

"Pokémon with exceptional potential" also meant that breeding and raising them properly would cost a tremendous amount of money.

Their family still owed Mika a substantial amount.

Although Mika hadn't pressured them about repayment, that didn't mean they could keep delaying it indefinitely.

"Dad, help me put out an advertisement. Tomorrow, I'll provide free grooming services for five Pokémon," Wayne requested.

Leon looked confused. "???"

"What's the reason for this promotion?" Leon asked.

Wayne saw genuine confusion in his father's eyes.

"Because I'm happy!" Wayne replied cheerfully.

"Alright! As long as you're happy, your dad will come up with a good promotional reason for you!" Leon agreed enthusiastically.

Fumie offered a practical suggestion. "Isn't grooming Pokémon for our employees basically the same thing? It could be framed as an employee reward benefit."

Wayne nodded in agreement. "Then let's do five slots for employees and five for regular customers."

Fumie looked at him with motherly concern. "As long as you don't feel too tired from all the work."

"Not tired at all," Wayne assured her confidently. If Wayne ever felt tired, he could just drink a glass of Smoked Sitrus Berry Juice.

One glass to refresh the mind, two glasses and you'd never feel tired again!

Later that evening, Wayne made a video call to Lionel.

"Grandpa, Blue has already returned to Kanto," Wayne reported.

"I just heard from him directly. He said you did very well and didn't embarrass me at all. I'm proud of you," Lionel replied warmly.

"Do you want to come visit Jubilife City? The Breeding Center has stabilized now, and Aunt and Uncle often come over in the evenings..." Wayne suggested hopefully.

"I'll consider it again. I still have vegetables growing in my greenhouse here that need tending..." Professor Oak replied hesitantly.

The Professor was extremely fond of the vegetables he grew in his personal greenhouse.

"..." Wayne paused, a bit disappointed.

"Okay, please think about it carefully, Grandpa," Wayne said.

Mika then offered some advice. "Regarding Feebas's problem, try to find a Milotic or another Feebas for it to communicate with. Pokémon-to-Pokémon interaction might help tremendously."

"Okay, I understand. Thank you for the suggestion," Wayne acknowledged.

Blue had actually offered this same recommendation during his stay.

With so many customers visiting the Breeding Center regularly, they were bound to encounter a Feebas owner eventually.

Wayne also had a friend who owned a Milotic.

Wayne was currently wondering whether he should trouble her to come visit and help.

Meanwhile, Blue was sitting comfortably on Charizard's back, also making a video call—this time to Red.

"Indeed, just as you said, he's very interesting," Blue confirmed.

"Right?! I told you he's a very interesting Trainer!" Red responded enthusiastically.

However, their definitions of "interesting" came from completely different perspectives.

Red viewed Wayne from the perspective of an online friend and fellow content creator, while Blue viewed him purely as a Breeder with exceptional potential.

"Did you battle him? I saw in his videos that his Lucario is extremely powerful, and his Metagross is also very well-trained despite just recently evolving..." Red asked eagerly.

"We battled once. It was pretty impressive," Blue confirmed.

They had battled once using Arcanine.

"Really?! Who won the battle?" Red asked excitedly.

"For now, I won. But he improves incredibly quickly. Next time we battle, the outcome might be completely uncertain," Blue admitted honestly.

"His battle tactics and command ability are already quite good, but his strongest point is definitely his learning ability—though he doesn't seem to fully realize it himself yet."

Although Wayne's team only consisted of three Pokémon so far, from Blue's professional perspective, Wayne's tactical knowledge and prowess were more than sufficient.

But what Blue was most genuinely satisfied with was Wayne's remarkable learning ability and how quickly he absorbed new information.

Red's eyes lit up with pure excitement. "Ahhh! Hearing you say that makes me want to battle him more and more!"

Blue chuckled knowingly. "When I get back to Pallet Town, I'll battle you instead. And by the way, I'll make you try the Smoked Sitrus Berry Juice recipe I just learned from him."

Through his seven days of close contact and observation of Wayne, Blue had developed a general understanding of his personality and priorities.

Wayne wasn't as intensely passionate about battling as Red or Blue himself were.

Blue felt that Wayne was exceptionally well-suited to be a Breeder, someone who prioritized the happiness and emotional well-being of Pokémon over pure competitive battling.

"Ahhh! You actually learned how to make it?! And we're going to battle too?! Hurry back—I can't wait any longer!" Red exclaimed with barely contained excitement.

Back at the Breeding Center, Wayne had made an important decision.

Because his cooking skills had recently improved to the Advanced level, Wayne decided to challenge himself by attempting the special dish he had previously obtained—Crab Roe Lion's Head Meatballs.

The system description read:

Crab Roe Lion's Head (B-rank): After consumption, physical strength is slightly increased permanently. (Special effect only applies once per individual.)

Note: With the player's current cooking level, there is a small chance of failure.

Wayne grinned confidently. "Heh, anyone with hands can make this!"
