CHAPTER 6: The Answer to the Darkness — Black Thorn's First Night

The sun had already disappeared beyond the broken hills.

Black Thorn Village slowly drowned in darkness. Faint candlelight flickered from cracked windows, but the air felt wrong tonight—heavy, tense, like something inevitable was approaching.

This silence was not peaceful.

It was waiting.

Because the news had spread across every alley and rooftop—

The Royal Guards were now obeying Prince Jay.

That single shift had disturbed the fragile balance of fear that ruled the village.

And fear… never gives up power quietly.

---

The Gathering of Shadows

Inside the oldest warehouse in the village, torches burned violently against damp wooden walls. Smoke gathered near the ceiling as men with scarred faces and cruel eyes sat around a long table.

These were the true rulers of Black Thorn.

Not nobles.

Not soldiers.

But criminals.

At the head of the table sat Raghav—the most feared man in the village and the leader of the Top Ten.

He slammed his fist onto the wood.

"A banished prince… and our guards kneel to him?"

His voice carried no panic.

Only danger.

One of his men swallowed nervously.

"They say he defeated three trained soldiers alone."

Raghav let out a low laugh.

"No one becomes a warrior in one week."

But his eyes slowly hardened.

"However… if the villagers begin to believe in him…"

He leaned forward.

"…that becomes a problem."

The torches flickered as he gave his order.

"Tonight—we remind him who truly controls Black Thorn."

---

The Palace Courtyard — The System's Judgment

At the ruined palace courtyard, Jay stood alone beneath the night sky.

Cold wind brushed against his face.

His eyes were closed.

He wasn't resting.

He was listening.

Then—

A blue light appeared before him.

---

📜 SYSTEM ALERT

Warning: Host Detecting Nearby Hostility

Recommendation: Remain Alert

---

But this time, the message did not disappear.

A new window unfolded beneath it.

---

📜 SPECIAL MISSION ACTIVATED

Objective:

➡ Defeat all gang members

OR

➡ Subjugate them under your authority

Reward: Ruler's Aura

Failure Condition: Loss of Influence Over Black Thorn Village

---

Jay's eyes slowly opened.

So this wasn't merely combat.

This was a test of rulership.

To destroy… or to dominate.

He exhaled slowly.

"Understood."

In the distance, footsteps echoed.

Not a few.

Many.

Ten.

Twenty.

Perhaps more.

Torches approached the palace gate like a wave of fire in the dark.

The Royal Guards marched among them—caught between loyalty and fear.

---

Teleportation — The Shift in Presence

The palace gate burst open with a violent kick.

Gang members flooded inside, weapons drawn.

The guards formed a circle, unsure of where to stand.

Jay stood at the far end of the courtyard.

Still.

Unmoving.

Then—

A sharp flash of blue light erupted.

In less than a blink—

Jay vanished.

Gasps filled the air.

And in the next heartbeat—

he reappeared in the very center of the gathered soldiers.

No footsteps.

No sound.

Just instant displacement.

Teleportation.

The air around him felt heavier.

Several guards instinctively stepped backward.

Jay slowly raised his hand—the same hand that had once trembled with weakness.

Now it felt steady.

Controlled.

"From this moment," he said quietly,

"the rules change."

---

The Man with the Scale — A Rare Skill

From within the crowd, one figure stepped forward.

He was not Raghav.

He was Raghav's right-hand man—the one who had organized the gang's arrival.

And above his palm floated something unusual.

A translucent, glowing Scale.

Jay's gaze sharpened.

A Skill.

Not everyone in this world awakened one.

Out of one hundred people, perhaps ten… maybe twenty at most… ever gained a Skill.

Some were born with it.

Some awakened it during life-and-death struggles.

The Scale Skill was rare.

It allowed its user to measure strength.

To weigh power.

To compare opponents in real time.

That was why the man stood so confidently.

"We already measured you, Prince," he smirked.

"You're stronger than before."

The glowing Scale tilted slightly, shimmering in blue light.

"But you're still within reach."

Jay didn't answer.

He didn't need to.

---

The Psychological Clash

Raghav stepped forward at last.

"So… you're the new king?"

Jay's expression remained calm.

"I'm not a king."

"I'm restoring order."

Laughter echoed across the courtyard.

"Order?" Raghav sneered.

"We are the law here."

Jay didn't draw his sword.

He simply looked at them.

And that silence—

that terrifying calm—

began to unsettle them.

---

The First Exchange

Without warning, two gang members rushed forward.

Blades slashed toward him.

Jay moved.

One side step.

One precise pivot.

A fist to the abdomen.

The first attacker collapsed.

The second swung wildly—

Jay ducked, grabbed his leg, twisted—

The man slammed into a stone wall.

The courtyard went quiet.

Even the man with the Scale frowned slightly.

The Scale flickered.

It tilted further.

---

Chaos Unleashed

A blade suddenly came from behind.

Jay sensed it before it touched the air.

He lowered his head.

The steel sliced nothing.

His elbow shot backward.

Impact.

The attacker crumpled.

Then all restraint vanished.

Metal clashed.

Shouts erupted.

The courtyard became a battlefield.

But to Jay—

everything felt slower.

His reaction training activated instinctively.

He saw openings before they formed.

He moved before strikes completed.

One by one—

the gang members fell.

---

Raghav vs Jay

Only Raghav remained.

He unsheathed a massive sword.

"Now this is interesting."

He lunged forward with terrifying speed.

The strike tore through the air.

Jay barely blocked.

Sparks exploded.

The impact forced him back two steps.

Raghav grinned.

"So you've grown."

Jay steadied his breathing.

"And you rely only on fear."

Raghav roared and swung with full force.

Jay waited.

One second.

Half a second.

Then—

Side step.

Raghav overextended.

Jay's fist drove into his ribs.

A knee struck his abdomen.

The gang leader collapsed onto the stone floor.

Silence consumed the courtyard.

---

The Decision of a Ruler

Jay stood over him.

His blade hovered at Raghav's throat.

"You are easy to kill."

Raghav coughed, blood on his lips.

"Then do it."

Jay paused.

The System mission floated faintly in his mind.

Defeat… or subjugate.

Slowly—

he withdrew the blade.

"No."

"From tonight onward, you work for the village."

Shock rippled across the courtyard.

The man with the Scale stared.

The glowing Scale trembled—

then tilted heavily toward Jay.

---

Mission Complete

The blue screen appeared once more.

---

📜 MISSION COMPLETE

Reward Granted: Ruler's Aura

Effect:

➡ Enemies experience hesitation under your presence

➡ Allies gain morale amplification

➡ Influence within Black Thorn Village increases

---

Jay felt it instantly.

Not strength.

Not speed.

Presence.

Authority.

An invisible pressure spread outward.

Even hardened criminals lowered their eyes.

This was not the aura of a fighter.

It was the aura of a ruler.

---

A New Balance

The night slowly faded.

Gang members stood subdued.

Royal Guards returned and bowed their heads.

For the first time in years—

order existed in Black Thorn.

Jay looked toward the horizon.

He understood something now.

This victory was small.

Because somewhere beyond the village—

someone was watching.

Watching the System.

Watching Jay.

And smiling.

The true storm…

had only begun.
