Before even reaching the asphalt, a suffocating stench of blood filled the air.
"Suzy, d-do you smell that?" Jenny's voice trembled slightly.
Even after surviving the end of the world for so long, Jenny had rarely witnessed truly gruesome scenes, and the overpowering reek of fresh blood instantly filled her with dread.
"It's blood," Suzy said grimly.
"Did... did they all die?" Jenny gasped nervously.
A stench this intense couldn't have come from a single person. If that entire group was dead... Jenny couldn't fathom what kind of creature could slaughter everyone in such a short span of time.
"Stay here and don't move. I'll go check it out," Suzy told her.
Hearing this, Jenny shook her head frantically. "N-No! I don't want to split up!"
Seeing how calm Suzy remained, Jenny felt that staying near her was her only safe bet. If she stayed behind alone and a monster appeared, she would be a goner!
"I'm coming with you," Jenny insisted firmly.
