Chapter 2: Kamsa's Fear

Kamsa, the cruel king of Mathura, heard a divine prophecy that the eighth child of Devaki would kill him. Out of fear, he began killing children and sent many demons to Vrindavan to destroy baby Krishna. One of them was the demoness Putana.

: Putana Enters Vrindavan

Putana came to Vrindavan disguised as a beautiful woman. Her plan was to kill baby Krishna by feeding him poisoned milk. She smeared deadly poison on her breasts and walked into the village.

: Yashoda Is Deceived

Mother Yashoda and the other women of Vrindavan were charmed by Putana's beauty and calm appearance. Believing her to be a divine woman, Yashoda allowed her to take baby Krishna in her arms.

: Krishna's Divine Power

As Putana began to feed Krishna, the Lord not only drank the poisoned milk but also drew out her life force. Putana screamed in pain and revealed her true demon form.

: Death of Putana

Unable to escape Krishna's grip, Putana fell to the ground and died. Her huge demon body shook the land of Vrindavan. The villagers were shocked to see how a tiny child defeated such a powerful demon.

: Putana's Liberation

Although Putana came with evil intentions, she had fed Krishna like a mother. Because of this small act of maternal service, Lord Krishna granted her liberation (moksha).
