Chapter 2 - COFFEE & CONFESSIONS

I didn't sleep much that night. Not because of the rain, not because of the accident but because of him. That stupid guy who had somehow saved me, looked at me like I mattered, and then just disappeared again.

I kept thinking about his laugh, that little moment. The way his hair stuck to his forehead like he didn't even care. And the way his eyes… yeah, his eyes. They had this kind of look so bold, like he could see right through me. And honestly? That scared me more than almost getting hit by a car.

The next morning, I went to my usual café. You know, the one where the barista already knows your order before you even say a word? I like that about small places—makes the world feel even smaller. Safer, I guess.

And there he was.

Sitting at the corner of the cafe, coffee in his hand, notebook open. Like he'd been waiting there for someone, maybe me. Or maybe just writing. Or maybe… who knows?

I froze. Again. Humans aren't supposed to freeze at 7:30 a.m. in a café, but apparently, I'm not exactly "human" in the normal sense when it comes to him.

"Hello," he said, not looking up at first. Then he did. And that smile oh gosh, that smile. "Sit? He said"

I blinked. "Uh… sure," I mumbled, sliding into the chair across from him. My hands were shaking kinda . Why were my hands always shaking around him?

I'm Liam,he said, finally closing his notebook. And you're…?

Kaya,I replied.

He said what a nice name for a nice girl like you. I smiled without looking at him

There was this weird silence then. Not the uncomfortable kind, but the kind that makes your chest tighten because you're waiting for something but you don't know what.probably waiting for him to speak first

"So"he said, finally, stirring his coffee like it was the most important thing he owns in the world. "You okay? "After….. yesterday."

I waited for a while . Should I tell him I'd been thinking about him all night? That maybe, just maybe, I hadn't slept because I couldn't stop replaying how he saved me? No. That would be crazy. Totally crazy.

I'm fine," I said, trying to sound casual. Thanks for… saving me.

He shrugged like it was nothing. anyone would've done it. He said.

But I knew. No one else would've done that like he did yesterday.

And in that small, quiet café, with the smell of coffee around us , I felt something shift. Something impossible. Something that whispered, this is just the beginning.

Because between us, forever it wasn't just a thought anymore. It was starting to feel like a promise.
