Chapter 70 - Chapter 68 — Sealed Gifts, Unsealed Paths

Dinner ended later than expected.

Not because of ceremony, but because no one seemed eager to leave.

The main hall of the Lin Clan was filled with low conversation, the clink of dishes being cleared away, and the faint hum of formations maintaining temperature and silence. Lamps cast warm light over familiar faces that no longer felt quite the same.

Lin Huang sat where his mother had ordered him to sit.

And stayed there.

That alone surprised more people than his return.

Meng Hongchen was the first to break the calm.

"…So," she said, leaning forward slightly, eyes sharp, "you disappear into Star Dou for a month."

Her gaze flicked briefly to Qiu'er.

"You come back taller, heavier, and with that standing next to you."

Qiu'er smiled sweetly. "You're welcome."

Meng ignored her.

"And you didn't take anyone with you."

Xu Tianzhen adjusted his glasses. "Or send word."

Ma Xiaotao crossed her arms. "Or die. Which is honestly the suspicious part."

Lin Huang took a sip of tea before answering.

"I wasn't alone."

"That's worse," Meng said immediately.

Ji Juechen spoke calmly. "You stabilized something."

All eyes turned to him.

He didn't elaborate.

He didn't need to.

Lin Huang nodded once. "Yes."

Zhang Lexuan, who had been listening quietly, finally spoke. "One month isn't long," she said. "But your presence feels… settled. Like you stopped fighting yourself."

"That's accurate," Lin Huang replied.

Long Xiaoyi frowned slightly. "You lost weight."

"Efficiency," Qiu'er said lazily.

Lin Yueqin shot her a look. "You."

"Yes?" Qiu'er replied innocently.

"Eat," Lin Yueqin said flatly. "You're in my house."

Qiu'er grinned and complied.

Conversation resumed, more fluid now.

They spoke of what had changed during the month.

Meng talked about adjustments in her cultivation rhythm — fewer fluctuations, more consistency.

Xu Tianzhen mentioned refining heat circulation, reducing mental strain during long calculations.

Ma Xiaotao admitted, grudgingly, that she'd stopped forcing output. "It turns out not exploding every time helps."

Ji Juechen said little, but his posture said enough.

Alignment.

Lin Huang listened.

Occasionally commented.

Never interrupted.

When the conversation slowed, he turned slightly.

"There's someone you should meet," he said.

Gu Yuena, who had remained unobtrusive until now, stepped forward.

She didn't release aura.

She didn't announce herself.

She simply stood where everyone could see her.

The effect was immediate.

The air didn't press down.

It clarified.

Meng blinked. "…She's… quiet."

Xu Tianzhen frowned faintly. "But heavy."

Ma Xiaotao narrowed her eyes. "Not hostile."

Gu Yuena inclined her head politely.

"My name is Gu Yuena," she said calmly. "I'll be staying for a while."

"…That doesn't explain anything," Meng said.

Qiu'er smirked. "She's complicated."

Lin Huang added, "She's an ally."

That ended the questioning.

Eventually.

When the hall grew quieter again, Meng leaned back in her chair, arms crossed.

"…You know," she said, tone pointed, "most people disappear for a month and come back with souvenirs."

Lin Huang looked at her.

"You left," she continued. "Didn't bring anyone. Didn't warn anyone. Didn't even bring gifts."

Qiu'er tilted her head, amused.

Xu Tianzhen glanced up.

Ma Xiaotao raised an eyebrow.

Lin Huang paused.

Then smiled faintly.

"Who said I didn't bring anything?"

Silence followed.

Not confusion.

Expectation.

Lin Yueqin exhaled slowly. "That can wait until tomorrow."

Lin Huang nodded. "It can."

But his gaze lingered briefly on the group.

And everyone felt it.

The hall was sealed before sunrise.

Not as a display.

As precaution.

Formations interlocked across the ceiling and floor, isolating sound, suppressing spiritual leakage, and reinforcing structural stability. Gu Yuena's spatial threads settled invisibly into place, subtle but absolute. Zi Ji stood near the rear pillars, her presence grounding the entire structure like a living foundation.

No aura would escape.

No fluctuation would reach the outside.

Lin Huang stood at the center.

"These are not rewards," he said calmly. "They are responsibility."

The air grew still.

Space parted.

Soul Bones emerged one by one, sealed, restrained, yet impossibly dense. Even compressed, the weight of two-hundred-thousand-year existence made the hall feel smaller.

"This distribution is deliberate," Lin Huang continued. "No exchanges. No hesitation."

He turned first to the younger generation.

Meng Hongchen

A skull bone drifted toward her, crystalline and cold, frost patterns spiraling like flowing thought.

"Skull Bone of the Glacial Mind Snowfox," Lin Huang said."Two hundred thousand years."

Meng inhaled sharply.

"…You went to Star Dou and hunted this?"

"Yes."

She stepped forward slowly.

The seal loosened.

Cold did not freeze.

It clarified.

The bone dissolved into her skull, frost-light racing across her temples. Pain stabbed sharply, forcing her to gasp, fingers digging into her palms.

Her thoughts slowed—

Not dulled.

Organized.

Tears gathered in her eyes.

"…It's quiet," she whispered. "…I can hear myself think."

She sat down before her knees failed.

Xu Tianzhen

Radiant wings hovered behind him.

"External Soul Bone of the Solar Dawn Roc," Lin Huang said."One hundred thousand years. Evolutive."

Xu Tianzhen stared openly.

"…You really expect me to survive this?"

"Yes."

The seal released.

Golden light detonated.

Bones formed along his back, tore apart, reformed again as nerves screamed. He dropped to one knee, teeth clenched so hard blood surfaced at his lip.

"Don't analyze it," Lin Huang said.

"…That's unfair," Xu Tianzhen gasped. "…My brain works automatically."

"Then endure automatically."

The wings stabilized.

Barely.

Ma Xiaotao

The skull bone hovering before her burned even while sealed.

"Skull Bone of the Crimson Nirvana Fire Phoenix," Lin Huang said."Two hundred thousand years."

She hesitated only a second.

"If I lose control—"

"You won't."

Fire erupted when the seal broke.

Her scream echoed once before she crushed it into silence. Phoenix flame scorched her meridians—but instead of tearing them apart, it purified.

Sweat drenched her instantly.

"…It's refining me," she breathed hoarsely.

"Yes."

She laughed weakly.

"…I hate that you were right."

Tang Ya

"Leg Bone of the Ancient Verdant Worldtree Spirit."

Green light wrapped around her leg, roots threading into muscle and bone. The pain was slow and deep, like forced growth.

She trembled.

"…It feels ancient," she whispered.

"It is."

Long Xiaoyi

"Torso Bone of the Deep Earth Sovereign Dragon."

When it merged, he nearly collapsed from the weight alone.

The floor cracked beneath him—

Then stabilized.

"…Heavy," he grunted.

Zi Ji nodded faintly. "That is what stability feels like."

He grinned despite the pain.

Ji Juechen

"External Spiritual Blade of the Void-Edge Star Mantis. Evolutive."

The blade dissolved into his arm.

He closed his eyes.

When he opened them—

Sharper.

"…No resistance," he murmured.

Lin Huang nodded once.

Xiao Hongchen

"Skull Bone of the Cerebral Thunderfire Owl."

"…I already regret this," Xiao muttered.

Lightning detonated behind his eyes as the bone merged. He clutched his head, groaning as thought-speed multiplied violently.

"…Too many threads—"

"Let them align," Lin Huang said calmly.

Zhang Lexuan

"Core Bone of the Moonlit Harmonious Spirit Crane."

Her fusion was controlled.

Balanced.

Ma Xiaotao shot her an annoyed glance.

"…Why does she look elegant while we suffer?"

Zhang Lexuan didn't respond.

She simply stabilized.

Silence returned slowly.

Then Lin Huang turned.

And the atmosphere shifted.

Lin Yueqin

His mother did not step forward immediately.

She watched him.

Then the Soul Bone appeared before her.

It shimmered with jade light, elegant and pure.

"Arm Bone of the Jade Sovereign Swan," Lin Huang said."One hundred thousand years."

The hall stilled.

"This bone enhances spiritual precision and elemental purity," he continued. "It will refine your fire, water, and wood into harmony."

Lin Yueqin looked at him for a long moment.

"…You hunted something like this," she said quietly.

"Yes."

She extended her arm.

The jade bone dissolved into her limb.

Light flowed upward, gentle but firm. No explosion. No violent surge. Just clarity.

Her aura refined visibly.

The sharpness in her fire softened into control.

Her water no longer fluctuated.

Her wood stabilized.

She exhaled slowly.

"…You brought something suited for me," she said.

"Of course."

She didn't smile.

But her eyes did.

Lin Tianhe — The Father

The atmosphere shifted again.

A fox-shaped Soul Bone emerged—sleek, refined, carrying ancient cunning within its aura.

"Torso Bone of the Eight-Tailed Moonshadow Fox," Lin Huang said."One hundred thousand years."

Lin Tianhe froze.

"…You're serious," he said quietly.

"Yes."

"This will—"

"Advance your bloodline."

The words fell heavily.

He stepped forward.

The seal broke.

Silver fox-light surged into his body.

He stiffened violently.

Then—

Behind him—

An eighth tail manifested.

Not illusion.

Not projection.

Real.

The hall trembled slightly as bloodline power expanded.

Lin Tianhe's breath shook.

"…Eight," he whispered.

Lin Huang said nothing.

He simply watched.

Lin Zhenyuan — The Grandfather

The final Soul Bone appeared.

This one was deeper in color, ancient, refined beyond aggression.

"Torso Bone of the Nine-Illusion Celestial Fox," Lin Huang said."One hundred thousand years."

The old man stared.

"…You went that far."

"Yes."

He stepped forward without hesitation.

The seal shattered.

Fox aura exploded outward, silver and violet intertwining.

His body trembled violently—

Then stabilized.

Behind him—

A ninth tail unfolded.

The pressure in the hall spiked sharply before Gu Yuena subtly suppressed the overflow.

Silence followed.

The grandfather's eyes were wet.

"…Nine," he said quietly.

The bloodline that had stalled for decades—

Moved again.

Su Mei

Last.

She stepped forward calmly.

The auxiliary bone reappeared briefly in Lin Huang's palm before dissolving into her once more, reinforcing the connection.

"Auxiliary Soul Bone of the Tri-Flux Harmonizing Spirit Deer," he said.

Then he handed her the sealed box.

"The Verdant Purity Heart Lotus."

Her fingers tightened around it.

"…You remembered," she said softly.

"Always."

Warmth flowed through her aura.

Stability settled like calm water.

Everyone sat.

Soul Bones integrating.

Bloodlines awakening.

Fox tails newly formed.

Immortal Herb boxes resting unopened in their laps.

Pressure rose.

Energy surged.

Lin Huang remained standing at the center.

Anchoring.

Guiding.

One aura spiked violently—

Fox blood reacting too quickly—

The hall trembled.

"Stabilize," Lin Huang said sharply.

And the night deepened into transformation.
