Chapter 10 - Chapter 8 – The Price of Resonance

The deeper region of the Star Dou Forest felt different.

The light thinned, the air grew heavier, and even the sounds of insects faded into an uneasy silence. Ancient spiritual pressure seeped from the roots of towering trees, pressing down on every living creature that entered.

Lin Huang followed closely behind Qiu'er.

He did not know how she moved through the forest without leaving traces, nor how she navigated the dangerous terrain with such ease. To him, it felt as though the forest itself parted slightly to allow her passage.

"This way," Qiu'er said calmly.

Her voice did not echo.It simply appeared in his mind.

Lin Huang hesitated only a moment before following.

They stopped near a cluster of luminous spirit grass.

There, half-hidden beneath twisted roots, lay a Silver Mirage Fox.

Its fur had lost its luster. Silver had dulled into pale gray, stained with darkened blood. Its breathing was uneven, shallow, and its spiritual fluctuations flickered weakly, like a candle struggling against wind.

Lin Huang's heart tightened.

"It's dying…"

Qiu'er nodded. "Its lifespan has reached its limit. Its bloodline is strong, but its body can no longer sustain the power it cultivated."

Lin Huang approached slowly.

Not hostility.Resonance.

The moment he drew near, his Imperial Fox Martial Spirit stirred within him. The translucent tails behind him shimmered faintly, responding to the similar bloodline before him.

A pull formed in his chest.

A silent agreement between instincts.

"This one…" Lin Huang whispered. "It's compatible with me."

Qiu'er observed him quietly.

"You feel it because your Martial Spirit recognizes its lineage," she said. "Your soul power resonates with its final imprint."

Lin Huang clenched his fists. "But it's still alive."

"It is," Qiu'er replied. "Barely."

Her gaze sharpened.

"And it will die in fear if left alone."

The surrounding air suddenly froze.

Ancient golden runes manifested, forming a spiritual array in midair. The symbols radiated authority far beyond ordinary Soul Beast suppression. The Silver Mirage Fox trembled once, its instincts collapsing under the overwhelming pressure.

Lin Huang's breathing tightened.

"You're forcing it…"

"If I do not," Qiu'er said coldly, "it will die in resentment. That stain would follow your Soul Ring for life."

Her voice softened slightly.

"This is not slaughter. It is a sealed passing."

The Silver Mirage Fox let out a faint, almost inaudible whimper.

Then, as if accepting its fate, its body relaxed.

Silver light burst from its form, condensing into spiritual essence that swirled around Lin Huang.

A Soul Ring formed.

Purple.

The moment the ring stabilized beneath his feet, an immense pressure surged into Lin Huang's soul. His mind trembled as fragmented memories, bloodline imprints, and primal instincts rushed into him.

The Imperial Fox Martial Spirit flared.

Translucent tails lashed through the air before stabilizing under his will.

The absorption process lasted far longer than normal.

When it ended, Lin Huang dropped to one knee, his chest heaving.

His first Soul Ring… had formed.

And it was purple.

The violent fluctuation of spiritual energy rippled through the forest.

Far away, within the temporary formation—

Lin Zhenyuan's eyes snapped open.

"That fluctuation…!"

Without hesitation, he rushed forward.

Lin Yueqin followed, her expression pale. Lin Tianhe brought up the rear, his cane striking the ground with quickened steps.

They arrived just as Lin Huang steadied himself.

"HUANG'ER!"

Lin Yueqin rushed to his side, gripping his shoulders. "You left the formation. Do you have any idea how dangerous that was?"

"I'm sorry, Mother," Lin Huang said weakly. "She guided me."

Lin Zhenyuan's gaze swept across the scene, lingering briefly on the fading spiritual traces left by Qiu'er.

"The thousand-year Soul Ring was planned," he said coldly. "But acting alone was not."

Lin Tianhe studied the purple ring silently.

"There is no surprise here," the old patriarch finally said. "With his talent and resonance, this was within expectation."

He turned his gaze toward Lin Huang.

"But power obtained without restraint invites calamity."

Lin Huang lowered his head. "I understand, Grandfather."

He hesitated before adding, "The ability from this Soul Ring is illusion-based. I can distort perception. In the future… I can conceal the ring's true age."

Lin Tianhe's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Then learn to hide," he said. "Before the world forces you to."

The return to the Lin Clan was quiet.

Inside the clan, however, Lin Huang's training intensified.

Not because he gained a thousand-year Soul Ring.

But because he acted recklessly.

He was ordered to remain longer in Martial Spirit possession, pushing against the threshold of bestialization without crossing it. Control became the core of his daily training.

At the same time, his appetite increased dramatically.

His body demanded far more nourishment. Lin Yueqin prepared meals infused with vitality herbs and spirit-nourishing ingredients, yet hunger lingered.

That night, while meditating, Lin Huang sensed something faint within his Soul Ring.

A sealed presence.

Not hostile.Not active.

As if a fragment of the Silver Mirage Fox still slept within him.

For the first time, Lin Huang realized that strength was not simply taken.

It was entrusted.

And it carried responsibility.

From the shadows beyond the Lin Clan's borders, Qiu'er observed silently.

Humans who scolded their children not for weakness, but for recklessness.Humans who did not treat Soul Beasts as mere disposable resources.

Her gaze lingered on Lin Huang.

His aura was strange.

Calm.And touched by fortune.

Perhaps the human world was not as meaningless as she once believed.

With a ripple in space, Qiu'er vanished — though her interest remained.
