Chapter 52 - Chapter 52- The first face she saw

Light.

Soft light.

Not painful.

Not overwhelming.

Hazel felt her consciousness rising slowly from deep darkness.

Like climbing through thick water.

Her body felt heavy.

Tired.

Empty.

The first thing she felt was warmth.

Not fire.

Not pain.

Warmth.

Someone was holding her hand.

Very gently.

Carefully.

Like afraid she would break.

Hazel's eyelashes trembled slightly.

Then opened.

The world was blurry at first.

White ceiling.

Modern dark silver furniture.

Soft night lamp glow.

Then—

Dark eyes.

Ryan.

He was sitting beside the bed.

Watching her.

Immediately alert.

But he did not move suddenly.

He only spoke quietly.

"Hazel."

Her throat felt dry.

She tried to speak.

Voice weak.

"…Ryan…"

The sound was barely a whisper.

But Ryan's chest tightened slightly.

Venom stirred.

Blade remained quiet.

Ralph pressed forward protectively.

"You have been unconscious for five days," Ryan said softly.

Hazel blinked slowly.

Five days.

Memory returned slowly.

Awakening.

Power drain.

Fear.

Pressure.

She tried to move her hand slightly.

Ryan noticed immediately.

But he did not hold her tighter.

He waited.

Hazel asked weakly:

"Did I… break something?"

Ryan shook his head once.

"No."

Silence.

Hazel's eyes moved slowly across his face.

He looked tired.

Not physically only.

Emotionally.

Something inside her chest tightened slightly.

She didn't understand why.

Ryan spoke quietly.

"You are safe."

Hazel swallowed slightly.

"Pack…?"

"Stable."

Pause.

Then Ryan added very softly:

"You scared me."

The words were not said like accusation.

Just truth.

Hazel's fingers moved slightly under his.

She didn't pull away.

But she didn't grip his hand either.

Ryan noticed.

Patient.

Always patient.

Hazel whispered:

"I feel weak."

"Yes."

"Is that bad?"

Ryan answered honestly.

"No. It means your body is adjusting."

Silence returned.

Hazel stared at him for a moment.

Then asked quietly:

"Did you sleep?"

Ryan did not answer immediately.

Hazel repeated softly:

"Ryan."

"No," he admitted.

Hazel frowned slightly.

"You should sleep."

Ryan's eyes softened just a little.

"I could not leave you alone."

Silence.

Long.

Heavy.

Comfortable in a strange way.

Hazel's voice was very weak but honest.

"I think… I heard you talking when I was unconscious."

Ryan's breathing slowed slightly.

"Yes."

"You talked about Venom."

"Yes."

Hazel asked quietly:

"Why?"

Ryan answered slowly.

"Because I was afraid he would destroy something important if you did not wake."

Silence.

Hazel's fingers moved slightly again.

Closer.

Not touching him fully.

But closer than before.

The room was quiet.

The world outside continued moving.

Pack members lived their lives.

Mila did not visit.

Devourer watched from somewhere far away.

But inside this room—

Two people breathed slowly.

And for the first time since awakening,

Hazel did not feel afraid of the darkness inside her.
