Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Giyu Tomioka leisurely petting his dog

Although the middle-aged man found the two suspicious, seeing how uncomfortable Yae looked, he still led them to the town's apothecary.

Only when he saw Yae's fever had significantly subsided did the middle-aged man relax. He thanked the three of them and then left.

"Come, please have some tea, you two."

"Thank you, Grandma (●'◡'●)," Kocho Shinobu and Tomioka Giyu said in unison.

After the apothecary grandma handed them the brewed tea, she went to feel Yae's forehead again.

"Hmm, she's not very hot anymore. As expected of an apothecary from the big city, Young Miss Kocho's medicine is really amazing."

"Please don't praise me so much, it's a bit embarrassing," Kocho Shinobu said, taking out two pieces of paper and handing them to the apothecary grandma.

"This is the medicine's recipe. Please keep it. I hope you can save more people in the future."

"Thank you, child, you are truly a good person." The apothecary grandma carefully put it into her pocket as if it were a treasure.

Beside them, Tomioka Giyu held tairo by the scruff of its neck with one hand and a teacup with the other, sipping his tea leisurely.

Seeing Yae's eyelids flutter, Tomioka Giyu spoke up to remind Kocho Shinobu, "She's waking up, Shinobu."

Kocho Shinobu quickly went to Yae's side and gently placed her own forehead against Yae's.

"Hmm, her fever is completely gone. Oh? She's already awake..."

Yae slowly opened her eyes, but what she saw was not the ceiling, but a beautiful face incredibly close to hers.

"Ugh? Waaahhhhh!" Fully awake, Yae's eyes widened instantly, and she quickly got up and moved away from Kocho Shinobu.

Kocho Shinobu didn't seem to mind. She picked up the already prepared medicine and handed it to Yae, saying,

"We're both girls, why are you shy? But it's really good that you're alright."

"Alright, quickly drink this, it will make you feel more energetic."

Taking the teacup, Yae looked at the unknown liquid still steaming in the cup and asked, somewhat suspiciously, "Excuse me... was anything added to it?"

"Tsk, don't ask so many questions, just drink it. Would I harm you?!" Kocho Shinobu said, crossing her arms, a little annoyed.

"Uh, okay..." Yae didn't ask any more questions and directly gulped down the tea in the cup.

"Cough cough!" Perhaps she drank it too quickly, Yae coughed twice before asking, "By the way, where is this place?"

"This is the apothecary's house across the street." Seeing that Yae had drunk her medicine, Kocho Shinobu's face once again broke into a smile.

"The young girl slept for half a day, it seems she must have been exhausted."

"I heard that hunters stay in the mountains for many days to hunt, but being in such a physical state will only harm themselves!"

"I deeply regret what happened to your mother. If it's convenient, I have some questions I'd like to ask."

"Ask me?" Yae asked, a little confused.

"Yes, that's right!" Kocho Shinobu held up two fingers and wiggled them back and forth, which, combined with her smiling face, made her look very cute.

This was something she learned from her sister; doing so made communication much more efficient than before.

"I want to know the specific details of how you were attacked and what you saw."

"I suspect that what attacked Young Miss Yae might have been a 'Demon'."

Tomioka Giyu, on the side, had no intention of interjecting, diligently petting the dog.

That's right, just now, he had successfully tamed tairo.

As for asking about the attack, it was better to let Kocho Shinobu do it, as she was also a girl.

Anyway, Yae wouldn't tell the truth, so it was better to let Kocho Shinobu use the opportunity to chat and build a closer relationship.

However, seeing Kocho Shinobu try her best to imitate how her sister talked to others, Tomioka Giyu inexplicably wanted to laugh.

Not out of mockery, but simply finding it amusing.

Tomioka Giyu thought, if he had a phone, he would record this scene directly.

Then he would let Kochou Kanae enjoy her sister's cute imitation performance, that would surely be very interesting.

While Tomioka Giyu was petting the dog and letting his mind wander, Yae had already told Kocho Shinobu the entire process of her 'bear' attack.

"I see..." Kocho Shinobu nodded lightly. "If it really was a bear, then it's not the opponent we're looking for."

"Enm... are you satisfied now?" Yae scratched her hair, pretending not to care.

"Then I also have a question, what are Demons? And who are you people?"

Kocho Shinobu took a sip of tea, then patiently explained, "Demons are monsters that eat human flesh and blood. They are intelligent and skillfully hide their presence."

"They have astonishing vitality. Even if their limbs are broken or their stomachs are pierced, they can regenerate quickly."

"Their weaknesses are sunlight and special blades called nichirin blades. They won't die unless their necks are severed with such a blade."

As she spoke, Kocho Shinobu glanced at Tomioka Giyu, who was still petting the dog, and said, somewhat helplessly,

"And we, the demon hunters who possess the skills to kill Demons, are the Demon Slayer Corps!"

Yae lowered her head slightly, hiding the expression on her face, and murmured, "Demon Slayer Corps... will kill all Demons...?"

"That's a given!" Kocho Shinobu said decisively, but then her tone shifted.

"But don't make us sound like executioners, we only kill evil Demons!"

"If I encounter a Demon that has never eaten a human, and will not eat humans in the future, choosing to starve to death, then I would be very willing to look after it."

"With a compassionate heart, until the very end."

After speaking, Kocho Shinobu looked at Yae, who was deep in thought with her head down, and said meaningfully, "But this time, it seems not."

"If Young Miss Yae thinks it's okay, I can also help you hunt the bear."

"No need!" Yae stood up, slung her hunting rifle over her shoulder, and as she walked out, she said, "I am a hunter, I will avenge myself!"

"I've caused you trouble, let's go, tairo!"

Seeing Yae about to go up the mountain again, Kocho Shinobu said anxiously, "Wait a moment! You just recovered from a fever, you need to rest a bit more!"

Tomioka Giyu released tairo, who was struggling back and forth, and stood in front of Yae, saying calmly,

"It's best not to go out at night. Once you encounter a Demon..."

Before Tomioka Giyu could finish, Yae impatiently interrupted him, "I'll say it again, there are no Demons here!"

"Move aside, I'm going up the mountain to hunt the bear!"

Tomioka Giyu didn't stop her. He stepped aside and only spoke again when Yae was about to leave.

"At least, I haven't seen one yet, a human who can regenerate."

Yae didn't respond to Tomioka Giyu and walked straight towards the snowy mountain.

"What should we do, Tomioka? If this continues, she'll never resolve her inner turmoil."

Kocho Shinobu looked worriedly at Yae's retreating back.

Tomioka Giyu's eyes showed no ripples. He spoke calmly, "Let's go up the mountain. Slaying evil Demons is our duty as Hashira."

"Uh, wait, Tomioka, I'm going to change into my uniform first."

"This kimono isn't very convenient (^﹏^)."
