Chapter 32 - The Iron Wall

The silver lining of having a "Commanding Presence" was that people tended to stop breathing when you entered a room. 

The downside, as Chen Ying was currently discovering, was that it did absolutely nothing to help sort through twenty-year-old data in the dusty basement of the Imperial Archives.

Chen Ying sat at a flickering terminal, her eyes stinging from the harsh blue light of a screen that looked like it hadn't been updated since the turn of the century. 

Beside her, a stack of digitized records from the late 1980s sat untouched.

"System," she thought, "Use 'Eye of the Investigator' to filter for any female orphans with the surname 'Lin' or 'Mu' who entered the city between 1985 and 1990. My eyes feel like they've been rubbed with sandpaper."

[System Notification: Request Denied.]

Chen Ying's brow arched in the dim light. "Excuse me?"
