The moment I had crossed Ashbourne's borders, the pack had rushed out in a frenzy to meet me. My father and the Beta were also present, their faces mixed with worry and frustration that only abated when they spotted my wolf. Then, their faces tightened when they registered my new scars, courtesy of Gamma Jackson and his wolves.
It must look terrible. I felt the skin tear itself apart, and my muscles ached while I dashed back to the pack, but I ignored the discomfort in a bid to get Yvette as quickly as possible. The rest of the search party was following behind me, but I had outpaced them so thoroughly that they would take at least an hour to arrive.
"Caius! Who did this to you?!" my father exclaimed, his eyes wide with shock.
I shifted back into my human form, carrying Yvette in my arms as I made a beeline for the infirmary. "No time to explain, Father, let me get Yvette to the infirmary first!"
