After hearing what Thorne said, I should have asked questions.
I should have demanded answers.
I should have pushed for clarity, for every hidden detail and painful truth concealed behind those loaded words that had just shattered the morning air.
Instead, I said nothing.
Because sometimes a person could only process so much insanity, so many revelations, and so much emotional whiplash in one single morning before their brain decided to shut down entirely for self-preservation. Apparently, I had reached that point. My mind felt full, overwhelmed, like a cup filled past the brim, any additional drop and everything would spill over.
"What does Nyx have to do with our engagement?" Lysera asked sharply, her voice slicing through the heavy silence like a whip cracking in the still air.
For the first time since I had seen her this morning, she looked genuinely confused.
Or maybe she was pretending.
