The fog parted, revealing a stone path under a violet sky. Sinephilim stepped forward, alone.
"Veronica?" she called. "Willow? Rhenvar? Viir?"
Nothing. The air was unnaturally still.
Ahead stood an obsidian archway etched with glowing runes. As she approached, the runes flared silver. A low growl echoed from beyond.
"Welcome, Sinephilim."
The voice was ancient. Masculine. Echoing from every direction.
"You carry divine blood. You wear the weight of leadership. But are you worthy of my spirit bond?"
Sinephilim stood tall. "I did not come for power. If this is a trial, then test me."
"So be it."
The archway flashed. Sinephilim stumbled. The ground cracked and the trial erupted lifting the ground she was on into the air.
Sinephilim stood at the center of a floating stone platform suspended in an endless sky. All around, phantoms swirled and warped, echoing with screaming pain.
Three platforms rose ahead of her, on each, a teammate kneeling in chains.
Willow. Veronica. Rhenvar.
Their faces were bruised and bleeding, eyes looking up in a daze.
"What is this?!" Sinephilim demanded.
"This is your command," the voice whispered. "You are the leader. You must choose."
"Choose what?"
"Only two may be saved. You must choose one platform. It will fall."
Sinephilim's hands curled into fists. "That's not leadership. That's cruelty."
"That is the decision. You carry the burden of choice. Your strength lies not in your power, but in your judgment."
The platforms began to tremble, slowly descending toward the void.
"No-!" Sinephilim shouted. "This is a decision without context. A sacrifice without reason!"
No answer came. So, she looked at her allies.
Willow looked up at her. His eyes were sad… but accepting.
Rhenvar gave a faint, annoyed smirk, as if saying, 'just get this over with'.
Veronica's eyes narrowed with pride. She did not beg.
Sinephilim's heart pounded. "I can't-!"
"You can. And you must."
She clenched her jaw. "There must be another way!"
"There is not. A leader chooses. A leader bears the cost."
The air trembled.
She stepped toward them.
Willow? No. He was powerful.
Veronica? She was cunning.
Rhenvar… as much as I despise him, I can't just sacrifice him. He saved my life.
All were needed. But none could be spared.
Father, why was I chosen?

Flashback: Leaders are forged.
"Why me? You said it best; I'm better on the frontline." Sinephilim asked.
Karn looked at Sinephilim. His gaze left her and drifted to the dwarven army. "I have a feeling Sin; you would be a great leader. One who can truly bring peace to this beautiful world."
"These foolish dwarves are not worth it! Why are we not killing them!" Sinephilim's voice roared.
"Because the dwarves have their reasons, if I sent you out there, you'd kill them all."
"So? They invaded us! And for what? A gold mine?"
"Yes! They tempt death for both us and them, for materials."
"So, let's kill them all and go home!"
"No Sin, you still hold father's anger. I see that now, but you are special. Amazing, in words I could never describe. But your mother- "
"What about her?!" Sinephilim grabbed Karn. "You always talk about her; I'm not my mother! I'm demonkin same as you, why do you care about her?"
Karn looked away then answered. "Your mother and our father they joined forces to expel an evil none have ever seen, it was... truly a magnificent sight to behold. These petty battles, they mean nothing compared our world," Karn let a breath out. "They are misplaced, greedy, priorities aimed at materialism."
"Karn, what in father's name is going through your head?"
Karn only grabbed Sinephilim. "We need, as demonkin, a fresh face, a true leader who can bring peace to the realm! You! Killing them brings nothing but death for us all!"
"Then... I will take command, brother. I don't know why, but if you insist, but I will go and treaty with this filth."
"Not filth sister, comrades... father's past mistakes have made it difficult. I am sorry for pinning this on you now... but I am sure, you are a blessing. You will be a great queen."
"What-"
"Stand proud sister, for you hold our kingdom in your hands, and all I ask, what will you do with it?"
****
"Choose!"
The voice broke her from her memory.
"I choose-" her voice cracked.
As I did that day...
"I choose… myself."
The ground froze.
"I won't trade one life for another," she said, staring into the void. "If this trial is about leadership… then understand this. I lead because I want to protect those who deserve a bright future. I don't sacrifice. I'm in the back, ready to command those who push forward. And if need be, I'll stand against the enemy myself if it means to protect those who can't protect themselves."
The shadows trembled. The voice went quiet.
Then, a howl shattered the silence.
A white light streaked across the void, transforming into a massive wolf made of starlight and shadow. Its eyes burned with ancient wisdom.
The large wolf stepped beside her.
"You have passed," the voice said, now softer. "You chose not with fear, but with true leadership. You refused to play by the rules of cruelty. You rejected false power."
The chains on the others shattered. The void-like world was dissolved.
Only Sinephilim and the great wolf remained.
"I am Fenrus," it said. "Great spirit of the wolves. Spirit of Resolve and leadership, I will walk beside you. I wish to make a permanent contract with you."
Sinephilim stared into its eyes. "I accept this partnership."
The wolf bowed.
"And I'll follow your command, Alpha. Till the end of days."
