Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: When You Gaze Into the Abyss

The lights in the Isayama family basement were warm and dim. In a rich family's house, a space like this would be a private theater or a wine cellar.

But the Isayamas didn't have that kind of money. Years ago, before his parents married, his mother used this room to store her collection of books on Cursed Energy.

Unfortunately, neither Kenmei nor Sakura had any talent for sorcery, so the books filling these shelves were about as useful to them as scrap paper. Still, they were their mother's legacy, so the siblings would come down here to clean every now and then.

Now, this spacious underground room had a new purpose.

"Finally... done."

Kenmei sat on the floor, propping himself up with his hands, gasping for breath. He looked completely drained.

"Seriously... not a drop left."

Mana: 0

His mana pool was empty. In exchange, the surrounding walls were plastered with talismans written not in blood, but in psychic energy.

"Demon-Sealing Formation"

These unknown talismans blocked outside detection. No one outside the villa would be able to sense the cursed energy fluctuations coming from the basement.

With the renovations complete, this basement was now the new "bedroom" Kenmei had prepared for his curse-turned-sister, Sakura. She would be living here from now on.

The Jujutsu world's standard procedure for Cursed Spirits was exorcism—killing them. They were threats to humanity, plain and simple.

And when the dead Sakura first appeared before Kenmei, she showed extreme aggression and bloodlust. She wanted to kill him. Eat him.

Sakura, weeping tears of blood, caressing his face and saying, "I want to eat your pancreas..." That was a scene Kenmei could never forget.

If he hadn't awakened his psychic powers, he would have been eaten by his sister that night, becoming just another victim in the statistics. And Sakura, having tasted blood, would have spiraled out of control, becoming a mindless monster destined to be exorcised by a stronger sorcerer.

That night, Kenmei used his psychic power to suppress Sakura and lock her in her room. But it wasn't a perfect seal.

While he was in his second simulation, his consciousness had become a "Thought Form," weakening his hold on her in the real world. That's how she broke free and tried to attack him again.

As for why Sakura acted like she'd never seen his powers before and screamed at him again?

Low-level Cursed Spirits born from resentment don't have rational thought. Their memories are fragmented, their minds hysterical.

They don't have "storage space."

Standing in front of Kenmei, the only thing she might remember was that he was her brother. She had no idea what force was binding her.

If he had a choice, who would want to tie up their own sister and lock her in a basement just to stop her from hurting people?

Sakura's wrists and ankles were bound by heavy psychic chains. Eight chains in total, glowing with a faint blue light, mystical runes flowing along the metal.

Psychic energy suppressed Cursed Energy. Kenmei discovered this while Sakura was still alive, trying anything to save her.

He had tried using his psychic power to purify the curse clinging to her. Surprisingly, it worked.

Although the terrifying cloud of black smoke only faded slightly, to Kenmei, it was a huge success. It meant his sister could be saved.

The only reason he couldn't cure her completely was that his psychic level was too low.

That was why Kenmei had desperately tried to restart the [Warhammer Simulator]—to level up his powers.

But we all know what happened. Sakura didn't live long enough for him to start the second simulation.

At least she was back with him now.

As Kenmei expected, the second simulation was much more beneficial than the first. Because the difficulty was suited to his level, the boost to his strength was massive. It really proved that the "best" choice is the one that fits you.

He even leveled up his Psychic Grade.

Though, fate was still mocking him. Kenmei's talent for psychic powers was just as trash as his talent for Jujutsu.

If he had awakened as an Alpha-Class Psyker from the start? Forget Sakura's curse—every Cursed Spirit in the world, Grade 1, Special Grade, or higher, would have been vaporized by the sheer shockwave of his awakening.

But his initial awakening was only Kappa-Class. The Imperium's description for this level was:

"Unconscious, minor mental activity. This low-level psychic talent only manifests under extreme stress and is beyond personal control. Usually, these phenomena are explained away as good luck or flukes."

Kenmei was only able to control his powers and suppress Sakura thanks to his "unmet mentor," Ahriman. That fragmented inheritance taught him the basics of control.

Now that he was Iota-Class, Kenmei had officially stepped into the ranks of true Psykers.

At this level, a Psyker posed a tangible threat to the Imperium. If discovered, they would be immediately captured and contained.

According to the knowledge he got from his mentor, Psykers were oppressed within the Imperium. They were viewed as threats.

Later on, an organization called the Inquisition was formed specifically to hunt down unregistered Psykers. Those found were often executed on the spot.

Even the Thousand Sons—a Space Marine Legion, the pinnacle of the Emperor's might—were distrusted because they were Psykers. Other Legions called their powers "sorcery." Even the Emperor didn't trust the Thousand Sons or the Primarch he created, Magnus the Red.

"If you treat with the Warp, Magnus, I shall visit destruction upon you. And your Legion's name will be struck from the Imperial records for all time."

It was a massive insult.

You can imagine how miserable life was for Psykers in the Imperium.

The reason was simple: Psychic power comes from the Warp, and the Warp is the playground of Chaos Daemons.

Whenever a Psyker uses their power, their soul shines in the Warp like a lighthouse in the dark.

Daemons, following that light, swarm toward them, hungry to devour their souls and possess their bodies. They cause destruction from within the Imperium, making them impossible to defend against. A single Psyker could become a beacon for a full-scale Chaos invasion.

That's why the Imperium monitored every awakened Psyker and executed any who lost control.

There's a saying: When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back.

The cruel joke was that higher-level Psykers didn't just get stronger resistance to Daemons. If they shone too brightly, it wouldn't be mere Daemons coming for them.

The Chaos Gods—the masters of the Warp—would personally take an interest, coveting their souls.

That was the tragedy of the Psyker.

But none of that mattered to Kenmei. His power came from the [Warhammer Simulator].

The Warp? What was that?

Was it tougher than his Simulator?

With that thought, Kenmei shouted:

"System, put points in!"
