Chapter 9 - Improved Strength

"Interesting… someone could actually resist my charm…"

These casually spoken words echoed in Xavier's ears. The implications behind them caused him to look at the new arrivals in a different light.

He was already familiar with the girl dressed in a red overcoat and white baggy jeans. It was Millie. Even now, her eyes were glued to his figure.

Standing protectively behind her was Aron, the ice-ability user who had blocked the entrance to the watchtower.

Xavier's expression unconsciously turned cold. Aron's actions were nothing short of attempted murder. If not for his own quick thinking and wit, the monster would have torn him to pieces.

Finally, his gaze stopped on Jackie.

A young woman with shoulder-length black hair, tied tightly into a sleek ponytail. A tight-fitting black suit clung closely to her smooth, hot body, highlighting each and every curve.

Just as Xavier's gaze focused on them, a small window similar to the one he had seen above the grey wolf appeared above each of their heads.

[Millie | Non-Evolved Human | Level 3]

As his gaze lingered on her figure, Xavier noticed a red mark on her left thigh. From his earlier experience, that was a weak point.

[Aron | Non-Evolved Human | Level 5]

Similar to Millie, along with his name and level, Aron's weak point was also highlighted.

[Jackie | Non-Evolved Human | Level 4]

Among the three, Aron was the strongest.

As soon as Zerin disappeared, the strange charm they had been feeling vanished as well. At the same time Xavier was examining them, the trio was also examining him.

"How did you kill this monster?"

Jackie repeated her question in a solemn tone.

However, Xavier simply shook his head and dismissively replied, "This is not the time for questions."

"I'm sure one of the so-called portals opened inside the prison, most likely related to the wolf. And if the common sense is to be believed, this dead wolf's companions are already looking for us."

"If I were in your shoes, instead of wasting time, I'd be thinking of ways to get out of here."

Xavier said calmly, putting special emphasis on us. He didn't want these three to try anything funny just because they had a numerical advantage.

Jackie snapped out of her dazed state and nodded.

"Let's go. His words make sense. Wolves are social animals. When injured, they call for help. And that howl before its death… let's assume the worst."

Aron frowned. He wanted to say it was all Xavier's fault, but he simply couldn't bring himself to say it. Instead, he turned and started heading upstairs.

Millie wordlessly followed him, though from time to time her gaze drifted back toward Xavier.

Xavier acted as if he hadn't noticed her gaze at all and deliberately moved slower. He had no intention of getting stabbed in the back.

While there weren't outright enemies between them, just because the world had turned into a shithole didn't mean people had suddenly lost all their morals overnight.

As Xavier walked, he silently muttered, "Status."

In just a few hours after the apocalypse, his stats had grown explosively. His strength had more than tripled. To achieve the same results before the apocalypse, he would have needed years, if not decades, of training.

Using this moment, Xavier decided to check the pending notifications.

[Ding! Ten Successful Executions Achieved. Milestone Reached.]

[+5 Stats]

[Predation Sense Skill Learned]

[Predation Sense – Allows you to analyze the strength and weaknesses of your opponents.]

[Congratulations! You have ranked within the Top Fifty Thousand. Inventory slots increased by 10. Rare drop chance significantly increased.]

[Continue working hard. You have the opportunity to evolve.]

There were even more notifications, but he neither had the time nor the interest to go through all of them right now.

"Even after getting a class, I still only receive two unassigned stat points per level…"

Xavier's eyes flickered with slight disappointment.

Complaining wouldn't change anything, so he buried the feeling deep in his heart.

Climbing up the icy stairs, Xavier reached the rooftop of the watchtower, only to be greeted by a disturbing scene.

Two people, a man and a woman, were entangled together like snakes on the ground, bodies tightly wrapped around each other, heavy breathing and suppressed moans echoing softly.

"Damn it, you two. Making out in the open like animals. Don't you know your weird behavior will attract monsters roaming nearby?"

Aron shouted furiously, his entire body trembling with rage.

The young and innocent Millie blinked her large eyes, her face flushing red as she quickly looked away.

The only one with a poker face was Jackie. She completely ignored them and focused on the distance.

After a brief scan, her gaze landed on Xavier.

"There is only one exit from this prison."

Xavier nodded while listening to her explanation, his gaze following the tall concrete walls enclosing the watchtower and the exit visible in the distance.

However, as he focused on the view ahead, his expression turned grim.

"So many zombies…"

Hundreds, if not thousands, of zombies crowded the main exit, attacking and feeding on each other. Xavier could even spot several hulking zombies covered in some sort of strange armor.

The sight sent a chill through his heart.

They're evolving too fast.

Just as Xavier sank into thought, Jackie spoke again.

"This is our only exit."

Xavier listened quietly, then narrowed his eyes, his gaze shifting toward the massive walls surrounding the facility.

"Why not climb the wall and escape directly?"

Compared to fighting all these Zombie's to escape, climbing the wall seemed like an easy option.

No one in their sane mind would want to face the Zombies when they clearly had other options.

However it didn't take long for him to come to an answer.

Why...no one considered jumping over the walls.

Monstrous flying creature, circled above the prison their hawk like eyes scanning the ground below for Juicy prey, however for some strange they didn't attack the creature inside the walls.
