The man on the balcony had his back to her. The room was brightly lit, but outside, dusk was settling in. Amid the shifting light and shadows, Lu Xize's silhouette seemed somewhat unreal and indistinct.
Chu Yao decided not to disturb him. After a glance at the food on the dining table, she headed to her bedroom first.
She changed into comfortable loungewear, went to the bathroom to wash her hands, and looked at herself in the mirror. One of her cheeks was still slightly red. Chu Yao paused, then took some foundation from a nearby makeup bag and applied a thin layer. The already faint red mark was now completely concealed, and only then did she turn to leave the room.
Out in the main room, Lu Xize had just finished his phone call and was coming back inside. The two of them met at the bedroom doorway.
