Watching Jane cover her lips, Drew felt his heart begin to pound.

The atmosphere was growing awkward, neither of them knowing what to say, when Shayla Florian's panicked screams for help erupted from downstairs.
Her cries were joined by a chorus of wretched, blood-curdling wails.
