Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: These Are All Used by the Deceased; You're Not Supposed to Wear Them

"All that matters is that my future husband is happy with me. It has nothing to do with you."

"You don't even have wives, so what are you dreaming about? How much have you had to drink to be this delusional?"

With that, Gu Shengsheng kicked everyone who had been disrespectful out of her stream.

She said, "If you can't stand me, just unfollow. Don't hang around my stream just to be disgusting."

"How I want to live my life is my business. It has nothing to do with you."

After kicking those people out, Gu Shengsheng lost over five hundred followers. Her already small fanbase seemed to shrink even further.

Gu Shengsheng didn't seem to mind. She walked past several more partitioned rooms and continued speaking to Qin Guocheng, "What is it you wanted me to see?"

"No rush. We're here."

Gu Shengsheng entered a room filled with all sorts of jars.

Then, an administrator brought out a bizarrely shaped jar. It was covered with rod-like protrusions, stuck into it like pipes.

It was a strange sight. Why would a perfectly fine jar have such an odd exterior?

Its appearance resembled the many legs of a beetle—nothing but legs, so dense and crowded that it was unnerving.

Qin Guocheng said with a smile, "I bought this at an appraisal market when I was young. I thought it was strange, so I bought it."

"I never figured out what it was, and I've never seen anything like it since. I took it out recently, and a few of us old-timers all agreed it's probably just an ordinary jar, or maybe even some modern piece made to be deliberately mystifying."

"Because, Miss Gu, look at the shell. Doesn't it look like a monster from one of those anime exhibitions in Japan?"

It was a bit jarring to hear such words from a man of Qin Guocheng's age.

But he was completely serious, wearing his reading glasses and pecking at his smartphone with just his index finger, frantically searching through his photo album.

Even though Gu Shengsheng had braced herself, she couldn't help but chuckle when he mentioned a "monster."

But when she actually saw the picture of the "monster," Gu Shengsheng had to admit it was a perfect match.

Qin Guocheng continued, "We were originally planning to get it repaired and just use it for something. Miss Gu, what are your thoughts?"

He was genuinely desperate to know.

No one could accept the idea that an item they'd treasured in their collection for so long might turn out to be such a modern creation.

'Wouldn't that make an expert like me look like a complete fool?!'

Of course, Qin Guocheng wasn't too concerned about that. He was more worried about whether there was something wrong with the item itself.

Gu Shengsheng circled the jar once. There was a faint, musty smell.

She moved closer and took a small brush out of her pocket.

She brushed at the jar and took a look.

This was the first time Gu Shengsheng had ever seen such an object.

'Forget Mr. Qin and the others who researched it for years. She wasn't a goddess, so how was she supposed to know what it was?'

Qin Guocheng watched her squatting down, studying it intently, but he couldn't guess what she was thinking.

"Miss Gu, any brilliant insights?" he asked, looking like an eager student ready to listen.

Gu Shengsheng: "..."

'She still hadn't figured out what this thing was.'

'However, now that she was looking closely, she noticed that each of the beetle-leg-like protrusions had a small hole at its tip.'

'Now that was interesting. Gu Shengsheng felt this was the key.'

She suddenly recalled seeing many bizarre burial goods from plundered tombs. She was certain that most of those artifacts also had holes in them.

Just then, Gu Shengsheng remembered having seen something roughly similar to this object before.

She thought hard for a moment. She had probably seen it during a tomb opening in her past life.

It had only been a fleeting glimpse, but now she remembered. "A Multi-angle Vase," she said directly.

Gu Shengsheng was suddenly grateful. Thankfully, she had been worldly and well-traveled in her past life. Even when slacking off, she was intensely curious and liked to look at everything.

She hadn't felt lucky when she first bonded with the System, but now, being able to handle challenges as they came... she felt she might really be one of those people born with a natural gift.

After Gu Shengsheng said the words "Multi-angle Vase," Qin Guocheng's eyes burned with intensity. "A Multi-angle Vase! What on earth is that?"

Gu Shengsheng remembered that the Multi-angle Vase wouldn't be discovered by the public for several more years. It was normal that he didn't know about it yet.

She said, "Mr. Qin, I actually wouldn't recommend you take this thing home."

"What do you mean?" Qin Guocheng's heart sank. He was suddenly a little frightened by the serious look in Gu Shengsheng's eyes.

Qin Shou's face was full of contempt. "Gu Shengsheng, are you out of your mind?!"

"You're definitely just making things up. You're trying to trick my grandpa so you can take this thing for yourself."

Gu Shengsheng's gaze lingered on his neck for a moment before she let out a "tsk."

She continued, "At first glance, you might think the ancients had strange taste to create something like this. I imagine, Mr. Qin, that's what you noticed when you brought it back."

"This item is from the Song Dynasty."

Hearing this, he nodded. "Correct. I thought the same as you, Miss Gu."

Then he continued, "If that's the case, then it's a genuine historical artifact. Why can't I take it home?"

Gu Shengsheng pointed at the holes on top.

"This strange design wasn't for decoration. It was used to store grain for the dead. The holes were there to make it easier for the souls of the deceased to 'eat' from it."

At these words, goosebumps erupted on the skin of everyone watching.

The online viewers were scared to death:

"Host, I'm lying in bed with the lights off watching you. When did you become a paranormal streamer? Ahhh!"

"I'm so scared! How can something so terrifying exist?"

"Oh my god! You definitely can't keep that at home! Mr. Qin probably kept it in a storage cabinet this whole time. Just thinking about it is terrifying."

"..."

Qin Guocheng swallowed hard. He suddenly felt a little scared.

"Miss Gu..."

Gu Shengsheng said directly, "So, Mr. Qin, I recommend you take this item directly to a museum for their collection."

"Yes, yes, of course. I understand now. In the future, I won't dare bring home anything I don't fully understand."

Qin Shou hugged himself, terrified. He said fearfully, "Gu Shengsheng, why do you have to say such scary things!"

"All that talk about souls and whatever... don't you try to scare me on purpose. And besides, Gu Shengsheng, that know-it-all attitude of yours is really annoying."

This time, Gu Shengsheng wasn't too busy to bother with him.

She said directly, "That Jade Pendant around your neck, how long have you been wearing it?"

"No wonder you were staring at me. So you've got your eye on my Jade Pendant. Just the other day, a friend of my grandpa's said it's worth fifty or sixty thousand. It's a Qing Dynasty piece."

Gu Shengsheng said, "It may be valuable, but you shouldn't wear a cicada."

"A cicada is usually something placed in the mouth of the deceased. And... it's used in conjunction with this Multi-angle Vase."
