By the time Yuan Si had helped her mother to the auditorium, the hall was already a cacophony of voices, teeming with people.
Yuan Si led her mother down the aisle toward the front. Xiao Furen had told them he'd saved the best seats for them: right in the middle of the fifth row.
After they sat down, the old lady surreptitiously whispered in her daughter's ear, "Wow, there sure are a lot of people here!"
"You're not kidding. I heard from Xiao Furen that the county government issued an order to all the work units in the county. Every unit had to send representatives to watch. It's a political task." Yuan Si also leaned close to her mother's ear to speak. There were so many people around that you couldn't hear a normal speaking voice unless you were right next to someone.
"They really know how to make a big deal out of things. Watching a show is a 'task' now," the old lady said dismissively.
