After the mother and daughter finished their meal, they did just as planned, each grabbing a small stool and sitting in the kitchen to start sorting through things.
"This is fresh wheat, isn't it? Where did your master get it?" The old woman grew wheat every year, so of course, she could tell that the large pile of wheat stalks on the floor was fresh, looking as if it had just been harvested from the fields.
"I don't know." Yuan Si played dumb.
"Your master must not mind how heavy it is. Why didn't he dry it and thresh the grains? What's the point of bringing back all these stalks? To burn as firewood?" The old woman's tone was a bit disdainful. 'Sometimes even Immortals are unreliable,' she thought. 'So straightforward they don't know how to take a shortcut.'
Yuan Si stared silently at the pile of stalks. 'So that's what felt off,' she thought. 'This is where the problem was. If I had realized this back in Hakas, I could have stuffed so much more grain into my space. So stupid!'
