He never fought or vied for attention, because he knew that at home, no matter how much of a fuss he made, nobody would care. He wasn't the eldest son, nor was he the youngest, and he wasn't a sister who could be married off for a good price.
Working at the general hospital, he only had to think about his salary and benefits—which were equivalent to what two and a half people back home earned—and he would be overjoyed, finally able to hold his head high!
One of the candidates who found out he had failed the exam remarked sourly, "That's not necessarily true. Didn't they say acceptance is a two-step process? There's the written test and the interview, right?"
"Even if you pass the written test, there's still the interview..."
Someone immediately sneered, "The interview is just a formality. The outcome will be pretty much the same as the written test. Besides, it's not like anyone here is an idiot. If you're smart enough to ace the written exam, you won't bomb the interview!"
