Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Boy, Did Your Head Get Squeezed by a Door

"You little brat, how about you come in and help me scrub my back?"

"You little brat? Hello??"

The woman called out from the bathroom several times but heard no reply. She started to wonder, 'What is that little brat up to? He didn't fall asleep, did he?'

Of course, she wasn't worried he would steal anything. After all, why would someone who could afford a supercar worth tens of millions be interested in the junk in her apartment?

But she was dead wrong. Fang Chenyi was, in fact, very interested in her junk.

Not only was he interested, but he had already carted it all away.

After waiting for a long while with no answer from Fang Chenyi, the woman stopped calling out. She quickly rinsed the soap off her body, then changed into a new set of lingerie she had recently bought online. After admiring herself in the mirror for a moment, she pushed the door open and trotted out.

"You little brat, here I come! Cooome... cooome... WAAAAAHHH..."

She pushed open the door, trotted into the living room, and was immediately stunned by the empty sight before her. The words died in her throat. A moment later, reality sank in, and the woman burst into tears.

'Did the little brat have to leave for something and forget to close the door for me?'

'And then my place got robbed?'

Even now, it never occurred to her that Fang Chenyi was responsible. The reason was simple: the impression he had left on her was just too strong. How could someone who drove a sports car worth over twenty million possibly want her meager belongings?

Once she came to her senses, she tearfully found her phone, planning to call the "little brat" first to ask if he'd had to leave early. Then she would call the police.

But when she picked up her phone, a glaring notification was on her screen.

"WeChat Income: 50,000 Yuan."

Seeing this transfer record, the woman froze for a second, then seemed to realize something.

She stopped crying and forgot all about calling the police. She hurriedly tapped open the transfer details and saw that it was indeed from her "little brat." 'W-what's going on? Did he have someone move all the old furniture out? Did he think my furniture was too worn out, so he gave me money to buy new stuff? Hehehe, that little brat is just too good to me.'

...

Ignoring the woman, who was now fantasizing about when she could get Fang Chenyi to help "unclog her pipes," we turn our attention back to Fang Chenyi himself.

The woman's building wasn't far from his own rental; it was just two buildings over.

After leaving, Fang Chenyi didn't linger and strode toward his rented apartment.

He had left in a hurry yesterday and hadn't locked the door. A gentle twist of the handle was all it took to open the old door.

Stepping into the rental apartment again, Fang Chenyi felt a surreal sense of nostalgia, as if a lifetime had passed. Just yesterday after work, he had been sitting on this old bed, scrolling through short videos. It was because of one of those videos that he was who he was today.

The thought made Fang Chenyi sigh with emotion.

He walked into the room, and his eyes immediately fell on the small pot of potato and meat stew on the coffee table.

Seeing it, Fang Chenyi paused. He then remembered that just as he had gotten the system and was about to go junk collecting, his landlady, Aunt Wang, had come by to bring it to him.

At this thought, Fang Chenyi's heart warmed.

He had come here to make a living all by himself, with his parents far away. This couple, Aunt Wang and Uncle Li, had always treated him like one of their own. Not only would they bring him some of whatever good food they made, but they also never said a word if he was a couple of days late with the rent when money was tight.

Of course, this wasn't to say that Aunt Wang and Uncle Li were wealthy. On the contrary, the old couple were both laid off and at home. Their only son was working and had settled down in another city. The two apartments they owned here were simply what they were allocated during a resettlement.

'Now that I've made it, it's time to repay Aunt Wang and her husband.'

'But if I just give them money directly, they definitely won't accept it.'

After a moment's thought, an idea came to Fang Chenyi.

He glanced around at the furnishings in the room and decided against his original plan to pack his belongings. There was no other reason than the fact that his shabby luggage simply wouldn't match his luxurious new villa.

Shaking his head, Fang Chenyi didn't touch a single thing inside, not even the one thousand yuan he had hidden under the mattress.

He picked up his keys, locked the door, and went upstairs to knock on the door of his landlords, Aunt Wang and Uncle Li.

CREAK. The door opened, and Aunt Wang's figure appeared before Fang Chenyi. "Eh? Xiaofang? Come in, come in. How come you didn't go to work today?"

Aunt Wang was a bit puzzled to see it was Fang Chenyi at the door. In her memory, ever since Xiaofang had started living here, he had never taken a day off unless he was so sick he couldn't get out of bed.

Her impression of Fang Chenyi had always been 'handsome, sensible, diligent, and able to endure hardship.' Seeing him suddenly in the middle of a workday, she couldn't help but feel curious.

"Aunt Wang, Uncle Li."

Fang Chenyi grinned and greeted Aunt Wang, as well as Uncle Li, who was inside wearing reading glasses and looking at a newspaper.

"Oh? Fang the Kid? Why aren't you at work? Are you sick?"

Seeing Fang Chenyi enter, Old Li also put down his newspaper. He took off his reading glasses and asked with concern.

"No, no, I'm perfectly healthy, hehe. Well, you see, I'm planning to change jobs."

Entering the room, Fang Chenyi sat down on the sofa without any restraint.

Hearing this, Old Li, who was sitting opposite him, pointed irritably at the woven bag and trash picker in Fang Chenyi's hand. His face was a mask of disappointment as he said, "This is your new job? I didn't believe it when your Aunt Wang told me yesterday. Tell me, you little brat, did you hit your head or something? Are you unhappy with your current job? If you're unhappy, then go find one that makes you happy!"
