Renee Jennings and Diana Jennings arrived at the Old Place.
This was a small tavern opened by Faye Wyatt's elementary school classmate, hidden in a priceless siheyuan courtyard. Under the gray-tiled eaves, a plaque was carved with two words: Old Place.
Inside the small tavern, a house band was playing and singing gentle old songs.
Upon entering the siheyuan, most of the tables and chairs in the main courtyard were empty. Only three or five tables of guests were quietly and intently listening to the music.
Faye Wyatt had called ahead to reserve a spot. When a waitress with her hair in a bun came up to ask, she heard the familiar name and immediately broke into a smile.
"Oh, you're Wendy's guests. This way, please."
The waitress with the bun led the two to the west wing.
Sylvia Brooks was already sitting inside. Seeing the two enter, she immediately stood up to greet them. "Diana, Renee, you're here."
"Summer," Diana Jennings greeted with a smile.
