Zachary Conway emerged from around the corner, his gun raised, his expression solemn and righteous.
"Police." He showed his badge and spoke gravely, "We've received a report. Susan Roth, Jasper Yates, you are suspected of inciting others to assault Melody Marsh out of jealousy because her college entrance exam scores were better than Theo Yates's..."
Jasper Yates's knees went weak with fear. He stammered, "Officer, it's a misunderstanding... a complete misunderstanding!"
"Yes, Officer!" Susan Roth's face turned pale with fright, and she began to wail, "Melody is my best friend's daughter! I watched her grow up, she's like my own daughter. How could I possibly do something like this to her? I couldn't be happier that she did well on her exams!"
The couple were about to wet themselves, completely baffled as to how they'd been found out.
"The police will investigate and find out the truth!" As soon as Zachary Conway finished speaking, footsteps approached.
