The car sped down the road as Diana Jennings's phone rang again.
The roast duck shop owner was calling again.
"Put it on speaker," Renee Jennings reminded her, then freed a hand to tap on her own phone a few times.
Diana Jennings answered the phone and put it on speaker. "Hello?"
The roast duck shop owner's urgent voice came from the phone. "So, what's the deal? Hurry up and send me the money, or I'm calling the cops!"
"What's the rush?" Renee Jennings said coolly. "Go ahead and call the police if you have the guts."
The roast duck shop owner was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Look, you're young. I don't want to make things ugly. I'm trying to give you a chance."
"Hang up," Renee Jennings said.
Diana Jennings immediately hung up the phone and opened her payment app's transaction screen. "But I know I just paid."
"It's okay, sis. We'll find out when we get there," Renee Jennings said in a calm voice. "Something's definitely wrong with that roast duck shop."
