Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Almost Lost

Li Wei stood below the stage, watching Lair.

Lair's casting speed for all his Magic was five seconds.

This was the time it took for Magic Elements to fill the Magic Model.

In other words, Lair's Cultivation of the Basic Meditation Method had, at most, reached the Small Success Level.

The Great Success Level of the Basic Meditation Method could reduce the time to fill with Magic Elements to two seconds.

Given the current situation, it was impossible that Lair was hiding his true strength.

Li Wei asked, "Teacher, what are the consequences if the Maple City Mage Tower loses the challenge?"

Gu Ze said, "If we lose, the Extreme Night City Mage Tower can take the Maple City Mage Tower's insignia as a symbol of their victory in the challenge."

"For the next three years, the resources the Maple City Mage Tower receives from the Mage Association will be reduced by ten percent. That ten percent will be transferred to the Extreme Night City Mage Tower."

"For Official Mages, the impact might not be significant. But it's foreseeable that starting next month, the benefits for Apprentice Mages will be cut in half to compensate for the Mage Tower's lost Cultivation resources."

Hearing this, Li Wei thought, 'This is bad.'

He was about to become an Apprentice Mage and start enjoying those benefits.

'Having the benefits cut in half right now... isn't that just robbing me blind?'

"Damn it! Doug lost too! Is there really no one who can beat him?"

"His casting speed is too fast! A Mage Apprentice is no match for him!"

"The Maple City Mage Tower has so many people, yet we can't even beat him by sending fighters one after another. We've lost all face and dignity, completely humiliated. This is pathetic!"

"Maybe next year I'll send my child to the Extreme Night City Mage Tower to study..."

Mage Aier heard the surrounding chatter, and his heart turned to ash.

He slowly stood up, his lips slightly parted. He wanted to say the words, but he couldn't bring himself to speak.

The Mage Apprentices who had lost to Lair all hung their heads, not daring to look at anyone.

Lair stood on the stone platform, sweeping his gaze over his many defeated opponents, a triumphant look on his face.

Today, he was riding high, single-handedly suppressing everyone from the Maple City Mage Tower.

Allen glanced at El's ashen face.

He smiled. "Brother, if you're not going to say it, then I won't be polite!"

"Sigh!" El closed his eyes and waved his hand listlessly.

"I'll do it myself."

Mage Aier opened his eyes, only to see someone walking into the combat area.

A puzzled look crossed his face. 'Who is this?'

Lair watched the person walk onto the stage, a look of surprise on his face.

'Someone else is here to serve themselves up on a platter?'

Li Wei said, "Li Wei, Apprentice Mage of the Maple City Mage Tower."

As soon as he said this, everyone looked stunned.

Lair's expression changed. "What do you mean by that? An Apprentice Mage wants to challenge me?"

Little John stared at Li Wei in surprise. "Why did Li Wei go up there? Even Doug was no match for Lair. What's the use of him going up?"

Old John quietly watched the two on stage, saying nothing.

Mage Aier's face fell slightly. "Who is Li Wei?"

Allen shot his brother a surprised look, not expecting that he also didn't know who had entered the stage.

Gu Ze stood below the stage, a look of astonishment on his face.

He had just seen Li Wei walk away and thought he was going to the restroom. He never imagined he would go on stage to challenge Lair.

Lair stared at Li Wei for a moment, then a mocking smile appeared on his face.

"If you want to be humiliated, I'll be happy to oblige!"

"Lair, Ring Mage Apprentice of the Extreme Night City Mage Tower!"

The battle began!

Lair raised his hand to begin Casting. After five seconds, a small Fireball formed.

He wasn't in a hurry to launch the Magic, leisurely watching Li Wei cast his own.

Seeing the Fire Elements begin to gather in front of Li Wei, he smirked and shot out the Fireball Skill in his hand.

WHOOSH!

Li Wei had no time to dodge, nor did he try to. He let Lair's small Fireball hit him.

BOOM!

The small Fireball exploded, and the fiery light engulfed his figure.

The crowd stared at the battlefield but saw no white light, and expressions of surprise appeared on their faces.

They had thought Lair would be able to finish Li Wei with a single Small Fireball Technique.

When the fiery light dissipated, Li Wei's figure was revealed.

Little John shouted, "Li Wei has a Magic Shield! He blocked Lair's Small Fireball Technique!"

There was no need for his commentary; everyone else had already seen the result.

However, the crowd still didn't think Li Wei stood a chance.

After all, Doug had also entered the stage with a Magic Shield active, and he had still lost.

Before the fiery light had completely faded, the small Fireball in Li Wei's hand shot out.

BOOM!

The small Fireball hit Lair. Lair's Magic Shield from his previous fight with Doug had not yet disappeared, so it blocked the small Fireball.

CRACK!

Hearing the sound of the Magic Shield shattering, everyone's eyes widened as they stared at the battlefield.

Lair was also a little surprised, and he couldn't help but tense up.

'I can't believe Li Wei's Small Fireball Technique actually broke my Magic Shield.'

He didn't dare to be careless anymore and hurriedly began Casting.

A second Small Fireball Technique flew out and hit Li Wei.

BOOM!

Seeing the fiery light envelop Li Wei's figure, Lair breathed a sigh of relief.

'This should be the end of it, right?'

But the expected white light did not appear.

His heart skipped a beat. 'Damn it, what kind of Magic Shield is this? Why is it so tough?'

Lair hurriedly cast a shield on himself.

Seeing this, Little John said regretfully, "Li Wei's casting speed is too slow! For every one spell he casts, his opponent can cast two. There's no way he can win!"

Just as Lair finished recasting his Magic Shield, Li Wei's Small Fireball Technique flew out.

BOOM!

The small Fireball hit the Magic Shield, causing it to shake violently.

Seeing his Magic Shield block Li Wei's second attack, Lair breathed a sigh of relief.

He felt that fighting Li Wei was even more nerve-wracking than fighting Doug.

His emotions were on a rollercoaster.

'I have enough Mana left for two more Small Fireball Techniques. I'll end this battle in one fell swoop!'

Lair launched a third small Fireball at Li Wei.

Li Wei remained unhurried, standing his ground and leisurely Casting.

BOOM!

The third Small Fireball Technique also failed to break Li Wei's Magic Shield.

Lair was dumbfounded.

He hurriedly cast and launched a fourth small Fireball.

This time, both of their spells were completed at the same time.

Lair's small Fireball shot toward Li Wei.

He gritted his teeth, refusing to believe that the Magic Shield on Li Wei could block another attack.

Li Wei's small Fireball also locked onto Lair and shot out.

The two small Fireballs crossed paths in mid-air.

BOOM! BOOM!

Two explosions sounded one after the other, and a flash of white light appeared on the stage.

Everyone wore expressions of utter disbelief.

"How is this possible?"

"Lair actually lost!"

"Holy shit! Li Wei is awesome!" Little John jumped to his feet and yelled.

The corner of Old John's eye twitched. He quickly pushed him back down and glanced around, but no one was paying attention to Little John's excitement.

The other Mage Apprentices below the stage all stared with wide, unbelieving eyes.

Allen stared intently at Li Wei. Even he couldn't understand why Li Wei was able to withstand four attacks from the Small Fireball Technique.

'This can't possibly be a Tier Zero Magic Shield.'

Gu Ze was also stunned. 'When did Li Wei learn the Magic Shield spell? How come I didn't know?'

'Whose Magic Shield is that? It's so durable!'

"Cheating! This is definitely cheating!"
