Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: A Pleasant Surprise, a Blue Blind Box

'Looks like they see me as a Divine Doctor,' Wang Yi thought.

He asked in a deep voice, "What's wrong with your wife?"

"After my wife gave birth to our kid, I don't know what happened, but her legs stopped moving. She's paralyzed. I'm begging you, Boss, please cure my wife's legs!"

"That sounds like a complicated and difficult case. How would I know how to treat that?"

But Wang Yi was thinking, 'The Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles have such an absurdly powerful effect. Who cares about the pathology? It forcefully boosts cellular activity. Maybe it actually can cure a rare case like this.'

"I'm begging you, Sir! I'll never forget your immense kindness. From now on, I'll work like a horse for you, and my kid will work like a horse for you too!"

Boss Li knelt and kowtowed. He had witnessed the entire process of Wang Yi saving Yang Wanli and the others, and he was convinced that the Roasted Chicken Immortal was omnipotent and could surely cure his wife's legs.

'If the kid's mother can stand up again, our lives will finally be good. I'd even trade ten years of my own life for it…'

Boss Li thought to himself as he continued to kowtow and plead.

Wang Yi sighed. "Fine. Bring your wife over. I'll take a look, but I'm telling you now, I can't guarantee I can cure her!"

Boss Li was overjoyed at his words and quickly said, "Thank you, Sir! Thank you, Sir!"

Wang Yi waved his hand dismissively and was about to turn and leave when a thought suddenly struck him. He looked up at the dispersing crowd.

'Why haven't I seen Pang Damao? Don't tell me that guy's gotten into some trouble too?'

Wang Yi muttered to himself. He believed reconnaissance was crucial. With good reconnaissance and enough intelligence, one could always stay a step ahead and maintain the initiative.

He saw that Pang Damao was clever and had made him the head of the Intelligence Department, intending to cultivate his talents. He really didn't want anything to happen to the guy.

At that very moment, Pang Damao had been forcibly woken up and was being driven to work.

His job for the day was still setting up posts. This involved digging holes and then burying sharpened logs one by one to form a palisade that would serve as the Lu Family Stronghold's defensive wall.

There were people in the stronghold specifically assigned to felling trees and others to processing the logs, so simply setting the posts wasn't considered particularly heavy manual labor.

Unfortunately, the foreman overseeing Pang Damao was from Pottery Village. The man was clearly bullying Pang Damao for being an outsider, assigning him the most exhausting tasks.

As the once-famous lazybones of Stone Village, Pang Damao was truly suffering this time. He was beyond pissed and wanted to run away, but the foreman was watching him like a hawk, giving him no opportunity at all.

'I'm such an idiot. Why the hell did I come here? And if I had to come, why did I ask for refuge? Isn't this just walking right into a trap? This miserable life is no different from doing corvée labor.'

Pang Damao was filled with regret. He wished he could go back to yesterday and beat himself up. He must have been asking for trouble to come to the Lu Family Stronghold.

...

By noon, Boss Li had arrived at the gate of the warehouse courtyard, pushing his wife on a wooden cart.

His daughter, a little girl of about six or seven, followed alongside, accompanied by three other people from Huangni Village.

'He actually brought her!'

Wang Yi spotted them from the Watchtower. 'Wouldn't be bad to earn another wave of prestige,' he thought.

Boss Li's wife was named Chen Quni. She was quite nervous upon seeing Wang Yi and clung tightly to Boss Li's hand.

Wang Yi couldn't be bothered with pleasantries. Without asking a single question, he took out the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles and swiftly inserted three needles into each of the woman's legs.

It was as if a fire had been lit inside the woman. Her skin turned red, hot air escaped her mouth, and her legs began to tremble violently.

"Mama! Mama, what's happening to you?"

Boss Li's daughter didn't understand the situation. The moment she saw her mother's condition, she grew frightened and couldn't help but cry out.

"Little one, don't cry!"

Boss Li quickly hushed her. The little girl immediately clamped a hand over her mouth, forcing herself to be quiet, but her face was full of grievance as tears streamed down her cheeks.

"Don't be so harsh with the child!"

Wang Yi found the little girl quite endearing. He reached out, patted her on the head, and asked, "What's your name, little one?"

"My proper name is Li Hua'er, but they just call me Little Girl!"

"Li Hua'er? Be a good girl, Hua'er, don't cry. Your mama will be all better in a little bit!"

"Okay, I won't cry anymore!"

Li Hua'er obediently wiped her tears away, her two small, dark eyes secretly sizing up Wang Yi.

Wang Yi took a liking to the little girl and ruffled her hair again.

Meanwhile, with Chen Quni, the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles worked with incredible speed. In less than ten minutes, the strange sensations in her body vanished, though her face was pale with weakness.

Wang Yi removed the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles and told her to try standing up. To her delighted surprise, she found that her legs could actually obey her commands.

"I'm better! I'm really better! I can stand! Husband, I can stand…"

Chen Quni wept with joy, but her body was too weak. She had just stood up and taken a single step before she staggered.

Boss Li quickly caught her. The man's face was flush with emotion, his eyes shimmering with tears. Supporting his wife, he hurriedly kowtowed to Wang Yi, too choked up to speak.

Seeing this, Wang Yi felt the man wasn't half-bad. He was a sentimental person, so his character was likely decent.

"Go on home. Although your wife's legs can move now, her body is still very weak. Let her rest and recuperate at home, and she should be able to walk like normal soon enough!"

Wang Yi waved his hand. He still wasn't used to being kowtowed to all day.

"Thank you, Boss! Thank you, Boss! From now on, I'll lay down my life for you!"

Boss Li continued to kowtow his thanks.

"Mama's better! Mama's better!"

Li Hua'er clapped her hands, then suddenly scurried up to Wang Yi. She pulled a cloth pouch from her clothes and said in a clear, crisp voice, "Roasted Chicken Immortal, thank you for curing my mama. I'll give you my treasure!"

Wang Yi couldn't resist pinching the little girl's cheek. "What kind of treasure?" he asked.

The little girl opened the cloth pouch, and when Wang Yi glanced inside, his eyes immediately lit up.

The treasure was a Blue Chaos Blind Box.

Wang Yi's expression immediately turned serious. He took the Chaos Blind Box and asked, "Little one, where did you find this?"

"I found it by the riverbed!"

"You found it? Are there any more?"

"Nope!"

"Good, good, that's a great find. If you ever find another one, bring it to me, and I'll give you something yummy to eat!"

Wang Yi was overjoyed. He immediately took two packs of crab sticks from his Chaos Warehouse and tucked them into Li Hua'er's arms.

"These are for you to eat. Don't you go sharing them with anyone else!"

"Oh, thank you, Roasted Chicken Immortal!"

Li Hua'er was the picture of innocence. She took the crab sticks and danced with joy. But after tearing open a package and taking a bite, she immediately started crying from the spiciness.

Wang Yi chuckled sheepishly and quickly got Li Hua'er two cups of Vegetable Soup. Then, he showed the Chaos Blind Box to the people around him and announced, "If anyone finds one of these little boxes, bring it to me. There's a big reward!"

A moment later, Boss Li and the others left. Wang Yi went up to the Watchtower alone, feeling thrilled as he looked at the Blue Chaos Blind Box in his hand.

'I never thought that just by healing someone's legs, I'd end up with a Chaos Blind Box—and a blue one at that. What a pleasant surprise!'

Wang Yi didn't delay. With a thought, 100 points of Chaos Energy were consumed, and the Blue Chaos Blind Box before him opened.
