Wanyun took out a handkerchief to gently wipe Little Zhang'er's tears, coaxing him softly, "How could your mother not want you? She's just too heartbroken right now."
Wanyun said, "Zhang'er, why don't you go play with your sister for now? Once your mother isn't so sad, she'll naturally come find you."
Little Shizhang looked up at Wanyun and said, "Mother still loves me, right?"
Wanyun nodded repeatedly. "Of course your mother loves you."
Wanyun instructed Ningshuang to take Zhang'er to Shi Rou's place, then she entered Rong Ju's room. She found Rong Ju looking deathly pale.
Wanyun went to her and said, "Aunt, even if you hate Shi Qi, you can't treat Zhang'er like this. Zhang'er is only five, and he doesn't understand."
Tears streamed down Rong Ju's face as she broke down in anguish. "He's a bastard!"
At that word, Wanyun's ears rang with the memory of Madam Mu screaming the very same insult at her.
